She's a beast. I liked how she tried to get on high ground ASAP when surrounded. Also, she can actually get hurt. Way better and likeable than most of the fighters in popular animes who get power ups just when they need it. Animes like this and 12 Kingdoms need to be more popular.

Definitely one of my fav series ever, detailed fights with an awesome story and character growth. Not mindless girls in reveling clothes who cry at the drop of a hat for no reason but a real woman with guts and brains wahoo!

i wish they had more woman in anime potrayed like this. sadly the fanservice animes are getting worse..
@DivinePearl9 жыл бұрын
Thomas Brooks Jr Xaforn OMG yes!!!! Finally someone else who noticed! I try finding other anime like this and its so hard. 12 Kingdoms comes close to having a normal woman as the protagonist instead of some hyper-sexualized girl. This is why I stick to MIazaki and coming of age animes. I like when anime uses normal people and rely on the competency of the story, actors, and music to tell their story than fanservice. Frankly I find fan service distasteful and just compensation to lazy storytelling, but that's me.
@Chemicalkinetics9 жыл бұрын
Divine Pearl Balsa is far from a normal woman. Less than 0.01% of women (or men) can be extremely proficient fighters and also be very intelligent. Yes, I do mean 1 out of 10,000 if not even fewer. The whole point of this scene is to show that she is a great fighters and also saw through that these palace guards were to "capture" Chagum, not to "kill" him. Seriously, how many women you know in real life can fight and think like Balsa's level? Is Jijuro a normal man? The whole point is that these are not normal people. They do extraordinary things.
@DivinePearl9 жыл бұрын
Chemicalkinetics I don't disagree with what you are saying, but you are taking everything I said out of context. Please reread and also the comments I replied to. I wasn't referring to her skill prowess at all. Just the animators depiction of her.
Just wanted to say thanks a ton for uploading this. It's been a huge direct influence on a creative project, I've been coming back and rewatching it for years.

This is one of the best anime I have ever had the pleasure of viewing. The fight scenes are fantastic, the story-line (to me) is so compelling as well as the emotional involvement. Seirei no Moribito has quickly earned a spot amongst my favorite anime to watch. I think I could watch this 100 times over and still be entertained.

Now that's 'all skill no kill.' Best thing about all the warriors... no outrageous special techniques that can tear apart miles of earth or cut down whole forests with a single swing of the blade. Pure dedication to mortal skills are always more intense than shooting fireballs at each other from hundreds of yards away.

This is one of my favorite anime fights, mainly because the characters actually FIGHT for a good duration of the clip with very few pauses in between. I love the traditional shounen formula of fight scenes but after a while, I just want to the character to wail on each other and not stop to argue philosophy or explain how their powers work or why they joined the bad guys. The fact that this show was aimed for an older audience (I think...) probably has something to do with it.

I hope for that fellow's sake, that he's kidding. Champloo is great fun with an anarchic sense of humor, but Moribito is a narrative powerhouse that keeps every one of it's many plates spinning all at once without a single misstep or fumble. It's practically a lesson in how to do storytelling. It is literally a wonder to me how this humble masterpiece is refused the credit it deserves. Too many fools with abysmal standards, I guess.

@LilyAnneVaj I agree to a point. I couldn't speak for the vast majority of fans out there that watch Naruto / Shippuuden as far as bonding the audience with the characters. They're given quite a bit of opportunity to do so and in some cases they do. The demographic they target and the author's way of telling Naruto's story is aiming to connect with a younger audience where as this one seems to want to connect to much older audiences. I do agree though, there's a stark contrast...

I've read seen the anime, bought the dvds, bought and read the two books translated in english... I seoriously need more Moribito. The best anime series I ever seen. Changing slightly the subject: does somenone knows if the coreographies and the spear fighting movements recall any existing martial art? Wudang and most of the chinese spear forms doesn't seem close to this, since the wushu spear is quite different (flexible and with the piece of clothing on top, no metal wrap near tip, like Balsa

question to any Japanese speakers here, is Balsa using a different dialect of Japanese or is it just archaic. Personally a lot of the Japanese spoken in this series seems like it's archaic or just an older type of speech because while it's easily recognizable as Japanese there are a lot of interesting quirks about the way characters speak and the way they pronounce things.
