WASP was the first arena band I ever saw. It was 1986 in Turin where they opened for Iron Maiden (Somewhere in Time tour). It was seriously 'The Chris Holmes Show'... Unbelievable player, unbelievable stage presence... He owned it... no-one could touch him...

I think the drugs and booze took its toll on him but what a musician in his prime. He was WASP. He gave the music a signature sound that has never been duplicated since he left.

Back in the day he was truly brilliant; his memorable guitar solo was "sleeping in the fire". its sad when people forget how much of a talent someone is by just judging who they are now!... I will always appreciate and remember Blackie lawless and Chris Holmes being the main talent behind one of the most raw and " risky" rock bands of all time.

@Jeff E. I always felt that wasp should have been way more famous. Blackie has one of the best voices and they have some brilliant albums and songs. Their debut is a masterpiece. I think they were unlucky to be in the hair metal genre as they sound nothing like those other bands like poison.

Great guy. I had the pleasure to hang out with him and he was a client/customer of mine in La Canada CA. Hung out with him at a few NAMM shows and local bars. Met his new wife a few years back before they left

I haven't thought about WASP in a long time and stumbled on a video today. The only member I cared to know anything about was Chris. So I thought I would investigate. I figured surely he's dead the way he treated himself all those years. Surprised he's still with us and making music. Glad about that and that he hasn't lost his sense of humor. I've never met Blackie, but I always had a feeling he was a sneaky cheat and I guess I was right. Especially now that he's all religious or whatever the hell hes into. Go Chris!

Actually, Circus Circus did NOT have Chris Holmes in it. Blackie and Randy Piper go way back, Chris Holmes came in to WASP in the beginning, but Piper had been with BL longer. Either way, Blackie back doored ( in order of being fucked over) 1- Tony Richards 2-Randy Piper, 3- Steve Riley,,,,and finally Chris Holmes. BL has not been a credible musician for years. I for one, lost total respect for BL when he lifted a song that he co- wrote with Arthur Killer Kane called Mr Cool. He recorded it with Circus Circus as Mr Cool, then renamed it and changed the words in the chorus and it became Cries in tbe Night. However he failed to give any credit to Arthur. His time in the NY Dolls was a blip of forgotten r n r history. Dint get me wrong, i love me forst WASP record, but fuck BL long live Piper, Holmes and Richards.
