This happened to me. Didn't work out. GF was in a passenger seat when that side got t-boned. Her head bounced off the window, then bounced off the driver's head, then back to the side of the car. Lost her memory of everyone but her sister. She wears a necklace with my class ring on it, she refuses to take it off but cannot tell anyone why it is so important to her. The new her was so different from the old one we didn't click and being around me made her feel awkward, as she felt a bunch of feelings that in her own words "don't feel like mine" so we didn't hang out very much after. I kept in touch with her sister through the years. She never got memory back of her extended family or any of her friends, and she only has a few random memories of her own parents but not all of them. The only person she fully remembers is her own sister. She was a full on introvert quiet and nice girl. Afterward she has become an extrovert that has to try everything, more or less hates any activity that keeps her indoors for long periods, now hates hot/spicey foods when she used to love them...her taste in music has changed, her favorite color, it really is like someone flicked a switch and threw her into bizzaro mode. About the only thing that didn't change is her being a romantic and very attached to things people give her, which explains why she refuses to remove that necklace. My story is, unfortunately, the norm for anyone around people who get amnesia. It is rare yes, but still more common than being struck by lightning (which I have been). It very rarely works out because people change radically based on collective experience. When you remove most of that experience (or all of it) the personality of someone grabs for things around it and extrapolates. Whatever seems to puzzle together and fit with the knowledge they still have becomes the new personality. If they are stuck this way with slow trickly of memories over a long period of time (anything over 9 months qualifies) then they will NEVER be who they were again even if they get all the memories back. In stead they will view those things as 'alien' and no longer themselves.
