@@VaatiVidya Another great video man. I'm reaching out with a humble idea and request for a friend and myself. My close friend and broer/brother Ghostacius just became the world's first to complete NG+999 A.K.A Journey 1,000 on his birthday, November 22nd. Last year on November 9th, I myself became the worlds first to complete Journey 999 A.K.A. NG+998. In respect for Ghostacius, I agreed to wait at the Firelink Shrine before going into NG+999 so that he would also have a World's First achievement. He was in fact the first to take on the journey and is the reason why I too decided to take on that journey. I'm working on a video edit to tell our story. I have gathered some clips from both of our streams with good times, tough times, running the final journey together and have some background music to go along with it. I'll probably use text fade ins and fade outs to sort of tell the story but, I just had the idea that it might be best and appropriate to have yours be the voice to tell our story. It took three years for us to get to this point and were even acknowledged apparently by BandaiNamcoUK and an official Dark Souls Twitter account. The video is still a work in progress but, if you are willing to lend us your voice I think it would give for an amazing finishing touch.

Somehow i can imagine that the Ministry didn't send an army to deal with the Ashinan soldiers, but rather out of fear that Isshin would manage to put up one hell of a final stand, or maybe even have managed to achieve the same form of immortality that Genichiro and many other creatures have throughout Ashina. Like you said Vaati, I can also imagine that if things had been different, if Genichiro had been more willing to keep his humanity, less willing to forsake everything for his country and more willing to maintain his humanity for his people, that the story would be far more different. Perhaps Ashina would have endured if he had been willing to let Kuro and Wolf go if they had helped him with one final service to their land by helping him and his people send the ministry out the door, without seeking Kuro's power for himself. If he had been just a little more like his grandfather was in his age, wise and understanding that losing ones own soul, ones own self, for the sake of something like power is foolish, more willing to fight and die with his blade in his hands and his head held high as a mortal, than maybe the story would have a happier ending for that small country...maybe... I apologize if my comment is everywhere, I am a little tired right now so my writing skill is not the best, that and i am far from a concise person lol. I might try and write an alternate version of Sekiro as a fanfiction one day when i have the time, but that may take a long time given just how eclectic my writing schedule is lol. Either way, have a great day.

Demon Souls, Darks Souls 1, 2, and 3, Bloodblrne, Sekiro, all these games show these complex civilizations, nations, and worlds as they rot and bleed out before their inevitable end at the hands of the player. I think it’s part of what makes them unique; instead of fighting to save the game world, you’re fighting to end it.

Sekiro has so many well written and likable characters. Both Isshin and Genichiro shine in their own ways. Isshin refuses to betray oneself until the very end, even when everything he built is threatened. Even when age and sickness eat him away from within, he still does whatever he can on his own as the Tengu or by the assistance of Emma and Sekiro. His sense of integrity is truly praiseworthy and I kinda have a feeling Kuro found some form of strength from Isshin as well to "do what needs to be done." Genichiro on the other hand, puts everything on the line to fight for his country, even if it is his own humanity. He is willing to do whatever it takes to win. You can say it is how he viewed the principle behind the Ashina style. Despite the means he employs, you cannot neglect the devotion he has for Ashina. He kinda reminds of Saber Arturia from Fate/Stay Night who was willing to sacrifice everything, including her humanity, to become the ideal king of Camelot and after it's downfall, she desperately sought the Holy Grail to change the past, like how Genichiro sought to use the Dragon's Blood to save Ashina. Note that Saber also gets corrupted by Angra Mainyu due to such mentality, which gives rise to Saber Alter. Plus Genichiro is quite similar to Sekiro as well due to both being orphans who are fighting over things they are devoted to. Both of these characters feel like opposites in their ideals, like Yin and Yang. Yet, I cannot help but admire both of them. Really appreciate how From Software wrote some amazing characters for Sekiro. Now, I'd really love to see a video on Kuro and his relationship with Wolf. Despite being a passive character in the story, I think there is much more to him than one can initially perceive.

Genichiro and ishine are perhaps my favorite bosses from fromsoftware not only for their challenge as a boss but for their reasons for fighting you. Not out of hatred but simply because your goals and their own clashes with one other and it times of war there was no other choice but to settle it in one final duel. It was so tragic to the point where you can feel the weight of their hopes for a better future in their blades only to then realize no matter what they did, the outcome would be the same.

Thank you for breathing extra life into the game and helping more people to discover its lore. TheParryGod's footage/editing is superb and your narration helps to bring all the relevant pieces together for us to appreciate all the more. If I may offer one humble suggestion, it would be to clarify when you're reading from the game text rather than your own script. A lot of effort went into translating and localising the game, and your own writing is so engaging that it might be hard for on-lookers to tell them apart! I realise that producing these videos requires a lot of hard work and dedication, but if you're able to add even just a bit of text for clarity, I know it would be much appreciated. Hope there's more to come from this excellent series!

Isshin is one of my favorite characters in all of videogames. He singularly established and held a country together through a focus on perfecting swordsmanship. Yet he recognized that he could not stop the inevitable passage of time and was resolved to fight for the country of Ashina until its and his demise. He also would never corrupt his integrity and actually moved to undermine, although subtly, Genichiro's commitment to capturing Kuro and gaining the dragon's heritage. Even after he's brought back to life and given the dragon's heritage against his will, he uses the opportunity to put on an unparalleled display of combat with hopes to be bested by Sekiro. At least that was my interpretation. In contrast to Genichiro who is a sort of sympathetic/tragic Faustian character, Isshin is the unwavering, principled, uncompromisable, martial arts ubermensch.

Heretical to the Ashina, Isshin is not the only person that comprises the Ashina. It was considered heretical because it was from someone outside the Ashina.

In the past, the Ashina fought a war against the Okami, a war on which lightning was frequently used against mortal men as an offensive weapon. While the memories faded, the fear remained, with lightning becoming a symbol of a supernatural force that few understood. Those who sought to duplicate it's effects may have been seen as heretics attempting to emulate some unknown enemy from long ago.

There were several lines in the final cutscene here that I never heard in 3 play throughs. I know Genichiro says he was powerless but never heard the line "but grandfather wasn't." What's truly scary about Isshin is that, in his prime, he was down an eye. Just how formidable do you have to be to improve your swordsmanship after losing an eye? What a final boss
@kasumi21733 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't really condemn Genichiro's character here... Ashina *is* already dead , its castle is already in ruin , its army's dead corpses laying unburied everywhere , no salt to purify them either , which means that plagues will soon follow as well ; the clan managed to survive the last assault from the ministry's army but only thanks to Isshin's presence...what's coming next is going to be their last desperate stand . It is clear to Genichiro that his presence and Gyoubu's won't be enough to save the country and the ministry men won't be stopped by a bull or by a couple of ogres , he *must* resort to desperate measures . As you mentioned..."a country is made up of its people" and these people are everything to Genichiro , they changed his life around so deeply that he feels life-bound to defend them and yet he's been unable to , he's only been able to see all of the people he knew and loved die one by one in front of his eyes despite his best efforts to avoid it ; he can't allow himself to give up , he doesn't want to , he won't , he'd prefer sacrificing all that he is and has achieved in order to save them , that is how grateful to the country he is . It is at this point that he starts seeking out the means to assure that his people and land survive , that he starts mastering Tomoe's arts , that he drinks off the sediment of the rejuvenating waters to achieve an imperfect yet desperate immortality , that he starts looking for Kuro so that even if he was on his own he could eventually manage to change the tides of the war . Kuro and Sekiro wouldn't have sided with Genichiro even if he didn't specifically go after them . Sekiro and Kuro are seen trying to leave the country via the moat's secret passage both at the beginning and at the end of the game , Wolf's iron code puts Kuro's protection before anything else so it is likely that they were just planning to leave Ashina before the situation escalated any further . Genichiro is a nationalist if you will , yes...but he's also a tragic hero in the story...and so is Robert's father , so is Gyoubu...and many more . This is also one of the many things I like about Sekiro as a game...it's not a good against evil sort of struggle...it's a clash between different humans , their beliefs , ideals and whatnot all equally relatable and reasonable . All of them are trapped in this calm before the storm , their stories unfolding as the tempest approaches and finally rages forth , the impending shadow of this all-crushing war which shows them for who they really are .
@patataeve3 жыл бұрын
Thank, i feel the same. Excellent comment! Genichiro is bound to Ashina, he goes through a dark path for her and the same does Wolf, because all of Sekiro's actions for Kuro bring a lot of death to many innocents too.
@jomsvikings96764 жыл бұрын
Just goes to show how strong Wolf becomes throughout the game. He struggled against Genichiro in the beginning, but went on to defeat *the* Sword Saint Isshin Ashina. A man that devoted every waking moment of his life to developing and fine tuning his combat prowess. The No.1 of the Sekiro Verse. I love the story of Sekiro. From Software sure know how to make narrative driven games.
