Some dude said exactly what he said about how he was practicing it for months and just couldn’t get it down and then bam, he started doing it like he’s been doing it for years
@AaronBowley5 ай бұрын
that’s how it was for me. i usually pick things up pretty quickly and since i’m a drummer and it’s so rhythmic i thought i’d get it down in a couple days, took a few weeks, was frustrated for a bit but now it’s like what i just naturally do on the guitar i’m now it’s like a fidget tool now lol

I believe the friend that taught him was Evan Brewer, who he played with in Animosity before Evan ended up in the Faceless and later Entheos with drummer Navene Koperweis, who drummed for Animals as Leaders before Matt. Another fun fact: Evan was trained by the legendary Wooten brothers.

"Once you get it, you'll forget that you couldn't do it before" is so true. Once you figure it out for real, it feels SO natural, it's actually wild to feel that and know how much time you spent struggling to learn it lmao.

Lute, too, particularly the 10 course baroque lute, is great for finger working. All repertoire is in tab from then, too.

I am a guitar player in the process of learning different bass techniques. When I first saw this video before playing bass, I was like this is so unique. But now I realize it is a bass technique that is popular with Marcus Miller and Victor Wooten called double thumb slap.
@Rendell05 Жыл бұрын
This is definitely the same technique as most modern slap bass players use. Cool to know what kind of tone he's using though.

Great video. I tried playing his technique just bow and ended up slapping the string here and there, haha. I am, too, curious how he played with his thumb. Thanks Matt for this informative video, 😀

Yes, it is very interesting. I feel like I could spend weeks working on this and only achieve a sore thumb! 😂 I hope you're doing well mate.

@@Moakalatte Just finished watching it now and that's an awesome technique indeed! I've always had a hard time with slapping of any kind, whether it's on the guitar or on the bass. Anyway, have you tried this percussive thingy yourself? :)
@Moakalatte2 жыл бұрын
@@mikeKidLazy I have not properly tried this technique. I'm intrigued to try it more but I just need to actually practise it for long enough for it to become musical and useful!

just use your thumb as a pick duh 🙄 that's the way one of the pioneers (or maybe the inventor) of this technique - Victor Wooten - teaches it. My man wants to look good I guess and tries to overcomplicate it. lame. 😕

meanwhile you're oversimplifying it. The fuck is the point of an "in-depth" explaination then when you leave a demonstration sesh for merely a minute of the audience's time? I don't think its necessary to teach a usually unheard of percussive technique whilst having to credit and c0ckride victor wooten who or whatnot
