A Texas girl here. Selena was huge in Texas before the rest of the world knew who she was. So sad, where she would be today...the biggest pop star ever. The Astrodome was a Houston icon, seating 60,000. She sold it out twice. The dance is a Mexican dance called the cumbia. Dance however you want. You would LOVE the disco medley. You will hear her voice! She is dancing with passion and singing on point....pure talent. RIP White Rose.

Mexican, Colombian, argentinian, etc. What they have in common is the beat. Instruments change country to country, but the beat is what ties them together.

We'll just to let you know that I teach a class as a college professor at Harvard about Selena and your question about where her music originated from that particular song or genre, is known because Selena invented and crossed it over into what they call Tejano music. She is known as the queen of Tejano being the first female artist to cross that mixture of R&B and Mexican music and be accepted into the Mexican market not only for being a woman but for the type of music being accepted she is what they call Selena the one because she's the one who unites us as far as Mexico in the u.s. in the political view. Her contribution to the musical markets and her history record-breaking momentum is what gave politicians the realization that the Latino markets was one powerful high percent of the u.s. and that maybe they were overlooking the Latino community on campaigning for their presidency campaigns and that is why they started catering to the Latino Community because they realized they were 60% of the population when she passed away and all Latinos of all type of Spanish community and blood unite to mourn her death to this day she is he most successful record-breaking Latina of all time she holds all of her record-breaking titles to this day

What is Tejano music( Tex-Mex) Europeans from Germany (first during Spanish time and 1830s), Poland, and what is now the Czech Republic migrated to Texas and Mexico, bringing with them their style of music and dance. They brought with them the waltz, polkas, and other popular forms of music and dance. However it was not until the Mexican Revolution (1910-1917) that forced many of these Europeans to flee Mexico and into South Texas, that their musical influence was to have a major impact on Tejanos. This concert is concider a big thing because it happen every year in Houston Tx. Is a Rodeo where you go to the fair ( fiera) , horse riding competition, vegetable competition, ect...and there always one day call Go Tejano day and on the day hispanic singers get to have their concert but in my opinion sences she pass away there hasn't been a good Tejano concert at all do to music changing and the tejano music is not to strong anymore , so us oldies (well not to old) have this site or any media to look for this type of music. When you look for her music look for her as Selena Quintanilla Perez or Selena y Los Dinos. She had 3 concerts in The Astrodome from1993 to 1995 1993 : Tejano superstar Selena breaks attendance record at the Astrodome by drawing a crowd of exactly 57,894 fans. 1994 : Tejano superstar Selena sets another attendance record at the Astrodome by drawing another crowd of 60,081 fans, breaking her previous record. 1995 : Tejano superstar Selena holds famed Astrodome concert with over 67,000 fans again, breaking her previous records. In Tejano music the purpose of the music is for the audience to dance. That’s why the song ends like that. She was about to go into another song. They Usually do two or three songs back to back so people don’t get off the dance floor or have to wait for the next song to start. Of course this is a regular concert but I’m sure they have a set list set up for a regular dance show.
