A lot of people give in to hiding their illness by using substances. It's admirable and incredibly wholesome that she's using the resources available, not only to help better herself but also so that she can try to make a positive impact on other's lives. These are the celebrities who deserve to be represented as role models to people. They are real people who share their real struggles in life and the importance of taking care of yourself. The people who glamorize their lives and act like everything is perfect all the time aren't relatable and actually do more harm than good to people who look up to them.

Having a nervous breakdown mixed with having Lupus, being Bipolar and a heavy dose of Anxiety is no joke. I'm just a no one (without the insane pressures that she's under) and I had a complete breakdown in 2011, between being Bipolar my self and developing an anxiety that basically made me Agoraphobic, it took a long time to get back to some kind of normal. With the family, fans & support Selena has around her, it'll be hard at times but she's a fighter and she'll get better a little bit each day. If you know someone who is Bipolar, I swear that we're not A-holes, out of no where it just happens, we know it and its a struggle to control it. I don't usually care about celebrity stuff, but she is really awesome for this. I have bipolar 1 disorder with psychotic features and it makes daily life really difficult, even in between manic / depressive episodes. I feel that Selena opening up to the world about having bipolar and having to go to the hospital for it makes a very big difference in the public perception of bipolar and mental health hospitalizations. People look up to celebrities and I think that people are more accepting of a celebrity that they like or idolize. Stuff like this bridges the gap in people's minds between bipolar disorder and themselves. This shows them directly that people with bipolar are not unrelatable monsters that commit crimes and hurt people. The media like to push the narrative that people with certain mental health conditions are like heartless, explosive, aliens. Her doing this is directly reversing that stigma and I respect the hell out of that. P.S. - I don't know why the director said that she's "broken". I feel like that's not a very nice thing to say about someone even when they say it about themselves. My bipolar does not make me "broken", it's just a part of me that functions a little differently than the average person. I would much rather be me than just an average person with an average life. That doesn't sound broken to me at all...

I am sayin this because you got diagnosed with bi polar and schizophrenia which I don’t think is a thing. There’s something called Schizoaffective disorder which is basically bipolar plus schizophrenia. And also look into ctpsd because it’s lot more common then ptsd and a bit different. Hope this helps! Those disorders are no joke!! It’s life threatening and causes an extreme amount of distress for the individual! And of course can effect others around them but mainly the individual!! Okay, fine. I have bipolar too. And I know that I can live fully happy life. And got remission. But she doesnt say ANYTHING about the meds. And its really important part, the treatment. We dont cure from bipolar. It always stick around. And therapy is really really important because it gives us knowledge about illness and how to cope with it. But its not depression. so its not just therapy, its the meds too. One day we may dont need them if we got remission, but its a long long journey to get there. And in every moment we can got episode. And then,.again, we need meds. I do yoga, i meditate. And i work with people with diagnosis from 9 years. And I think the psychoeducation and changes in the way we live is the most important, right after meds. I live with it from 12 years. And, now I know, that people with bipolar got a little different structure of brain, in some parts. So, what I wanted to say - do not be afraid to go psychiatrist and do not be afraid of meds. You will be, finally yourself. In "between"
@3amDayDreamer2 жыл бұрын
I agree with you! I have Bipolar 2, and I was diagnosed at 18. It took me 10 years to finally get treatment. For 10 years, I refused to take any medication, but medication saved my life especially Lamotrigine. Last year was the worse major depressive episode that I’ve experienced and psychosis made it worse. Right now, I feel great. I exercise, eat healthy, and I have a lot of other outlets to help me. I wish her program would help educate people on the importance of medication and seeing a psychiatrist.

I dont like when ppl who got a diagnosis for mental illness in a moment of their life think of themselves as broken or say “I’m broken right now, but one day I’ll be whole” I myself am guilty of this, but as I get older and I’ve lived with my depression and PTSD longer I realize I was never broken, things out of my control happened to me, people treated me in ways they shouldn’t have and my mind did the best it could with the few tools I was given to cope The aftermath is the physical stuff like the depression or anxiety But the amazing thing about human beings is we can go through the worst things and witness terrible things but we don’t give up We may stumble but we keep trying…that isn’t being broken it’s unbelievable strength Idk who needs to hear this…but I promise it gets better, in the end you always have to be your own best friend, be kind to yourself and never give up on yourself

Remember it's natural for all humans to go through mental disconnects and breakdown's life is tough and life and stress bring many of these things together. Thankfully you can remember that your not alone and that's it's not just your issue, sometimes you may feel there is something wrong with you like a car with a broken part. YES! That's what I've been saying for ages! That I live with Bipolar, I don't suffer it. I'm 47, and I was diagnosed with BP when I was 15. It was very stigmatized back then. It still is, dangit. Fortunately, I DO see the stigma lessening now. Golly, for years, I only "existed". I made poor decisions. I felt broken and useless and hollow and a waste of space. I felt "not good enough"! I was sure that everyone else was better than me!! But nothing could have been further from the truth. I am a rock star! (Not literally. I work in preschool, ha ha, but you get what I mean.) I've raised 3 wonderful kids into adulthood, and I was able to earn a college degree. I have a terrific "perfectly imperfect" marriage. Bipolar is called "The Smart Man's Illness" for good reason. We are SMART and CREATIVE. With proper medication and loving support, you can live your best life. Be patient with yourself. Keeping it together takes practice, I tell ya. Sure, I still have hard moments, and times of feeling scared and hesitant to let anyone know my "unfortunate secret". I think, "why God, do I have to have THIS trial"? But ya know what? If tomorrow brought a cure for Bipolar, I don't know that I would take it. I look at my BP as a gift. Life is a journey, not a marathon. I wish the best of luck to you and to ALL my fellow human beings who live with this! Thank you for raising awareness!

I don't doubt that she has her issues but I feel like people want to be told that they have a mental illness these days. I have suffered from anxiety but I refuse to let that label me. And it doesn't mean denying your struggles either. We are humans and all of us go through really rough things. Having anxiety, depression, etc.. is not a trend. And I feel like that's what it's become.
@Channel243772 жыл бұрын
Maybe I hope it’s not a trend I just think mental illness is more common then we thought and now it’s getting the attention but for me my social anxiety has ruined a lot of things in my life I wish it wasn’t the case but I have feared for my life I have at points fear of being homeless since it’s hard to keep a stable job with this illness I wish it didn’t have this much power over me but sadly mental illness can take a toll on us and at times we can’t even cope with it we just want people to be more educated and know why we do certain things. A lot of people don’t understand how hard it is to be part of society with mental illness they just judge us for our actions thinking we do it on purpose when sometimes it can be something like bipolar or social anxiety I’m still going through it as an adult I’ve had it since a child but I always wish I could get rid of it.

@@Channel24377 I think people like Selena coming out and revealing these things helps normal people understand just how awful and debilitating mental illnesses can be. I’ve heard many people say “oh they’re just lazy” when talking about someone with depression, but as soon as it becomes a topic of discussion, they’re able to educate themselves. If it is a “trend”, it’s a dang good one.
@Alex-tk7gh2 жыл бұрын
@@Channel24377 I agree with you that perhaps mental illness or issues are a lot more common than people once thought. But for me that only illustrates all the more that life isn't easy for any of us and it's how we handle those struggles that separates one person from the next. Let me just say, I've read so much about anxiety because I wanted to understand what I was going through. I didn't want to be another medicated person and the research I found was tremendously beneficial for me. There are lots and lots of people just like you who have overcome debilitating anxiety. The power is in knowing and understanding what is happening to your brain so you lose the fear. Anxiety is all fear, and I'm sure you know that. It's possible for you to overcome it, I believe it. I will recommend a book to you that helped me a lot. It's short but the person who wrote it went through debilitating anxiety of all kinds for over 10 years. Now maybe you've had it longer but it really doesn't matter. It's called "At last a life" by Paul David. His book has been prescribed by doctors and it's helped people all over the world. Hopefully it will help you too🙏

@@Alex-tk7gh The pill-pushing pharmacutical industry doesn't account for the social and evironmental factors that increase the prevalence of mental stress and disorders. Capitalism in decline causes increased mental hardship on all of the working people. That along with increased awareness and the unfortunate expropriation of that social awareness to further the ruling class's agenda to medicate instead of preventing mental health crises are reasons why things around the subject is so sticky and even cringy nowadays. Mental health struggles and identity is important and we're finally starting to see the "human" side of it instead of soley the pathological lense, and instead of actually making the world better for it, the ruling class turned it into a publicity stunt to be "pro mental health," sell all sorts of self-help products, and push addictive medication and unaffordable therapy onto those who can't afford it. The system continues the cycle as it attempts to de-stigmatize it by failing to even recognize the fundamental factors that caused it in the first place: capitalism. [If you'd like I can explain more in-depth on what I mean by that but I don't want to write something out that you won't want to read lol). P.S. I'm not saying Selena is doing anything wrong, I'm proud of her for being open about it after all she's been through. She's rich and famous, but she's not benefitting from this cycle the way corporations are: she's a part of it like the rest of us, experiencing pain by a society that pretends to understand. She just happens to have all the resources at her disposal, something 90% of us don't have.

The loneliness I've been experiencing for years is of a different kind and nature. I suffer from both bipolar disorder and dysthymia. I have no support, and most people don't believe me. Unfortunately, I also live in a third-world country. If my relatives knows about my illness, they label me as "overly sensitive" and think I'm exaggerating or that I chose to be this way. When I'm not manic, I'm constantly depressed. No matter how hard I try to get better, my environment doesn't normalize. I'm surrounded by healthy, normal people. I envy them, so much. Seeing them makes me feel lonely and how far I am from the most ordinary things and how tired I am of fighting. I hope future generations don't have to face such hard challenges as we have. I hope they have a safe haven to turn to. I hope they don't feel as lonely as we do. I hope people like me are careful about continuing our lineage and don't make decisions emotionally. After all, suffering begets suffering.
