One of the saddest parts for me - excluding her death - is that she never was able to sing this song live or even know how much people would love this song. The song was released months AFTER her death so at the time she died, it was a song stored in her studio that she was probably eager to see the people’s response to it. She’ll never know how giant this or Dreaming of You was.

You have to understand; Selena Quintanilla-Perez is the unofficial patron Saint of Texas. There is a statue of her in Corpus Cristi that always has a life jacket during a tropical storm/hurricane. It is absolutely unfathomable what happened to Selena and to think it was someone she trusted and even when everyone was warning her, she had such a good heart she still trusted her to the bitter end. If it were a random person I think people would obviously still be upset, but it would be slightly less bitter. The fact that the woman was a friend, colleague etc is something I cannot and probably will never understand. I've seen programmes on her and she just seems 'blank' like it still has't dawned on her what she actually did. Anyway, let your heart be still - because of Selena, we are talking and that is a wonderful thing. You are thousands of miles apart and I'm relaxing in bed after working so hard at this YT stuff and ready to cry, and then your message came up and it made me feel like you were my friend talking to me in in living room. I remember this being released and all of us in tears listening to it. The song is so angelic, hypnotic, and just a breath of air that takes me away. I imagine being in a hammock, hand dragging in the sand just in love. She did that with just her delivery of this song. What a loss that breaks my heart and quite honestly, angers me a bit. It was unfair, unnecessary, and unjust. Her voice will ring like an angel forever. What a WONDERFUL choice of hers to react to. I literally have chills all over.

As a pasty white guy who first became familiar with her through my Latino friends and my visits to a Latino dance club, I fell in love with her through her Spanish-language music first. She was so classy and elegant but so down-to-earth and real. As you said, nothing smutty - and yet very uniquely and powerfully attractive. I have never felt about any star the way I felt and still feel about Selena. Jennifer Lopez played her well in the movie, but even Jennifer Lopez was never quite "the real thing." There could be only one Selena, only one such masterpiece - crafted by God and stolen from us by an act of evil. But the gift was only lent to us and had to return to the beauty from which she came.

I haven't seen the mini-series because I don't do Netflix, but I hope it came close to doing her justice. I happen to live in Arizona, which has a strong Latino (we usually use the word Hispanic) flavor. I have many happy memories dancing to her Spanish-language songs with my Mexican and Mexican-American friends. I will certainly check out your playlist. My favorite Selena song (and video) was "No Me Queda Mas." They were kinder, gentler times.

That first airy note gets me everytime. I knew it would do it to you too. That short- hair, cow print outfit was in San Antonio in 1991. Stationed in Korea, I missed that concert. Psyche, you should definitely read the book her husband put out a few years ago called To Selena With Love. If you think you love Selena now just wait until you read that. Im sure you could find it in audiobook version too. Its one of the few books I plan to re read at some point. I too cannot wrap my head around what happened to her and shes been gone almost my whole life and it never feels any more real to me(I was 2 when she passed, and my introduction to her was actually her Biopic with Jennifer Lopez). Even when i listen to her music today, i cannot help but feel like shes still out there somewhere in this world. Cannot wait to meet her in the heavens one day!

Hi Psyche, as you can see, I am here getting my Selena endorphins. I lived in Texas the day of her tragic death, and I remember it like it was yesterday. My heart has never been the same since. Although her career was short, she has touched my heart and life like no one else. Her humility, sincerity, and realness can be seen at 1:06 in her video. She is experiencing a surreal moment looking out at the crowd in disbelief not able to believe how much she was loved. That is what was so beautiful about this young lady, she loved that she was loved and still hadn't grasped the idea that it was because of her inner beauty. It is hard for me to listen to this song because it brings back that painful day when we lost one of the most beautiful souls in this world. This is why we need to be kind and compassionate human beings because we all have the power to affect people as unique and positive role models. Thank you, Selena, for allowing me to see that real beauty can exist in this world.

I didn’t hear about Selena until the news reports about her death, but since the moment I first heard this song after they released it I’ve became a huge fan and morn Selena’s death along with her millions of long dedicated fans. I know time can’t be changed, but I really wished Selena and her father would have kept quiet and reported Yolanda to the police, she would have went to jail or worse killed herself , and Selena would have gone on to be the living megastar that she was on her way to being, with no Yolanda Salvadar in her life and business.

It's such a sad situation that just no one understands. I've seen countless programmes and I still cannot understand how this got so far. I'm not sure if she will be released but I feel she would be better off staying where she is for her own safety. Anyhow don't focus on her as I believe that everyone has to face the Universe at some point so don't worry. 🙏🏽.
