I am white.. and let me tell you.. when Selena came out in the 90's.. even young white boys like me fell in love with her.. such a beautiful voice. and such beautiful music.... some fun songs as well.. but anyways.. I grew up living down the street from Selena and let me tell you, she was extremely down to earth and she waved every day when we’re outside playing. I was in 7th grade when she passed and I remember our neighborhood street being congested for months with traffic and people.

This was the english crossover pop album she was in the middle of recording when she was murdered. She was set to start filming the video for this song a week after her death and she only got to record half the album. She's American, didn't even speak Spanish until she was a teen, years after she had already been singing it with the family band. Her idols were people like Donna Summer, Janet Jackson and Madonna, and the irony is that after over a decade of hard work with the family band and becoming very successful in the Tejano music industry, she was finally doing the pop album she had wanted to do since the beginning and then it's all taken away in an instant by one obsessed ex employee/friend. She designed all of her own performance outfits and was talented beyond singing. She had one of those very rare personalities that just drew people in and made them instantly like her. The world was robbed.

That wasn't her boyfriend but she had a husband before she died and he was the inspiration for some of her late music. His name is Chris Pérez and he was a guitar player in her band and they were very much in love and even though he remarried a few years later he could never get over Selena. He doesn't regret his decision otherwise he wouldn't have his children.

Shes Breathtaking! Best way I can describe her talent and beauty. You mentioned her smile, which was so very lovely, but she was stunningly beautiful all the way around. I didnt know who she was before the movie came out.I got out of the Marines in 1989. She passed in 1995. I spent military service in Spanish speaking countries such as Spain, Panama and Puerto Rico in 1989 so I should have known something of Selena. I regret missing out on this wonderful young lady's talent. And this song is something very special. Im a big tough man, but her singing on this song turns me into a big mushy teddy bear. Selena planned to have a whole album in English. She also planned on making more but her untimely and tragic death prevented that.(RIP) This song is the first single from that English album. She was on the tour before that album was finished when she was murdered in Corpus Christi by the president of her fan club. She also has a Spanish version of this song. Also, in some of her Spanish songs she throws some English in. English was actually her first language. She learned Spanish because it was easier for her father to book gigs. She’s actually from here in Texas.

Selena never toured this album. The English album was never completed fully in English. The record company released "Dreaming Of You" album but with only 4 English songs and the rest of the tracks are her spanish hits. Selena was murdered in Corpus Christi, TX (her hometown.) Above all, a very tragic story.

Selena debuted as a member of a band along with her elder siblings to then becoming popular within the American Texan community. She became first female artist to hit the charts with albums and popular songs in the Latin song charts and in such a short time became big. Unfortunately her life was cut short when she got shot and killed by her long time friend and manager of Selena's Boutique. She was 23 years of age. Selena did perform a Disco Medley live from Astrodome and it's worth the watch. R.I.P. Selena.

I've lost track of how many times I've listened to this song (and it always makes me cry 😥). But, I was never able to catch her words, spoken in Spanish, during the bridge. This was partly due to her speaking them so softly and partly due to the fact that I'm not a fluent Spanish speaker. So I tracked down a video of the song with lyrics (letra) and put them into Google Translate. Here's what I found for anybody similarly curious: Spanish: Siempre estoy soñando en ti besando mis labios, acariciando mi piel abrazándome con ansias locas, imaginando que me amas como yo podria amar a ti. English: I am always dreaming of you kissing my lips, caressing my skin, hugging me with crazy desires, imagining that you love me as I could love you.

I has only heard of Selena when they reported on the news about her death, it saddened me, then they released her English album that she was working on when she died, and I became a huge fan, and I grieve along with her millions of fans. She would have been a absolute megastar if she were still here. We miss her, but she leaves a great legacy after her short life, a great life shortened by a coward who Selena considered a friend. I saw a video report that said that if the bullet that hit Selena was just a centimeter above or below where it hit, she would probably have lived. I remember when she started to hit. I was into grunge and rock, but my wife is Mexicana and always loved Mexican music and Tejano. My wife introduced me to her music and I've been a fan since then. I prefer her Spanish language music, but this song is beautiful. Now I have a 14 year old daughter and she loves Selena and takes great pride when she wears her Selena shirt to school. She'll be having her quinceanera next year and there will be many Selena songs played at the party.

Funny, at first, he didn't want to be in the band because it wasn't his style. He wanted to be in a rock band, but he joined the band anyway. Great reaction.

Selina was not a native Spanish speaker. She was from the US. Her father was from Mexican ancestry and wanted Tobe a singer when he was young but the Americans o hid day didn't like him because he was Mexican and the Mexicans didn't like him because he was American singing American music. He encouraged his children to become a band singing traditional Mexican music called Tejano. She became the most successful female artist in that genre. And broke into yltge American scene as a cross over artist. Same as Sharkira a few years later.. You shouldn't worry about the language issue. What counts most is the music and vocals. This song is in English, but let me recommend one of her Spanish songs. No Me Queda Mas.

I would say you haven't heard her more in English because she was tragically murdered just as her first English album was climbing the charts, so there's only two widely released English singles. The other one you should check out is, "Dreaming of You:". I don't speak Spanish either, but I do like her Spanish song "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom." Such a tragic loss makes it hard for people to continue to enjoy the beautiful music. I still can't listen to Whitney Houston without much sadness.

I love Selena's voice in this song, it brings a sense of peace. Have you ever listened to Gloria Estefan and The Miami Sound Machine Maddy? Suggest "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You" or "Conga".
