It's not even a recent thing. Nijisanji has really failed to update their rigging software b/c they were WAY ahead at one point & thought no one would catch up. Look at someone like Flayon from Holostars, who debuted around somewhere between xsoleil & krisis. Even though krisis is more recent than his wave, his model is more animated & expressive than krisis'. Of course, his papa is from Iron Vertex, but I think my point still remains that niji just figured they'd always be top dog & refused to innovate as a result

See its funny because there are indie vtubers with much better rigging than Nijisanji vtubers. Most of them are stuck with one default facial expression or maybe they can go from :D to :O and that's it. Knowing that the company takes most of the revenue from the livers I'm not surprised they'd cut corners to keep more money so they don't give a lot of budget for rigging
