The first layer is called S.A base ply. Second layer is called S.A cap sheet. Remember to install the edge metal on top of the first layer ...then a nail it in stitch pattern and apply asphalt primer. When installing the top layer use a heat gun and a metal roller to seal the seams. Good luck . Thanks for watching!

I read the instructions on the box and it says to first paint the surface with asphalt primer. I bought some on Amazon since I could not find it at HomDepot or Lowes. It goes on like paint and dries fast. It makes the peel and stick stick a lot better!

You do good work & i know you went through the roofers union apprenticeship school to earn your Joirneymans card the same as i did in Detroit ,let me give you a tip on priming your edge metal,to prevent any overspray hitting the face of your metal use a piece of insulation or cardboard to hold tight to the metals face where your spraying primer,it allows for a cleaner finished product & a solid prime along the metal where any skips in the primer will cause future issues ,nice job guys ,if your a do it yourself person here to learn you wont find a better roofer on youtube than this guy,his work can stand up to manufacturer warranty inspections few small roofing companys can pass .

Had an argument with my partner over 2 ply vs. 3 ply the manufacturer does aprove this method (2ply) the base mechanically fastened is optional. Great video and settled a debate for me!

Many ways to put it, you can actually put it on directly on the woodsheet, better if wind is a factor, so that the wind pick up, wind will be more advance to go under the the first layer and pick up both layers.cause the self stick is not directly contact the wood itself

you should use a non stick underlayment first then apply a sticky backing over the non stick. Consider in the future maybe 25 years or more,, to replace shingle, how will you be able to remove the stick on underlayment from plywood? I don't do this every day but have i have common sense as a general building contractor.?

Hi Eric, I'm a rookie, amateur, wannabe roofer, however I'm high strung detail oriented! I've hired well known pro roofing companies to repair my 5 level roofs only to learn of the expensive messes they made when I finally did my own roof inspection. The builder was the worst! Instead of using cant strips large mounds of tar were made around the canales/scuppers on my big beautiful home. When pros recognized I was an "INCONSOLABLE GRIEVING WIDOW" all they heard was cha-ching cha-ching party time. Yup, you'd shaming these pro-roofers mercilessly if you saw the crap work I pay thousands of dollars every year for the past 15 years & my roofs still leak around the canales. I'm now 64 & healed - tired of crappy roofers - ready to learn how to reroof & repair my own roofing w/the same products you are using as well as expert tutorials. Wish me success! 😀

Subscribed ......I have a little front porch balcony that covers the stairs of a two flat in chicago that needs to be resheeted because decking is soft spots and roofing is shot, it's only like 11 x 6 I'm gonna resheet myself and thinking of just buying this type the rookie stuff you call it . Or should I buy a torch ? I also want to be able to use it to go out on once in a while from the second floor .Would that be possible or will it damage . How do I do a flat roof so I can sit out on it ?? Also when you go up on to bricks like a foot so just stick and put metal flashing over but how I'm confused ? Rookie stuff...LOL I was just joking , because anyone can do it once you watch this video , when you adhere to any concrete wall , apply asphalt primer first to make sure the membrane will stick to it , and maybe use a heat gun or even a hair dryer will work to heat up the membrane to stick to the wall, after apply concrete silicone on the termination of the membrane and hold it with concrete nails, if you want to hide all that ....just install a cosmetic flashing held by concrete nails. pretty simple stuff, I will make sure to make a video about that ...i have a video of a flashing a fireplace, it's basically the same thing. thanks for watching . eric.

What happens when you need to reroof a few times? The roofing is adhered to the plywood. Do you have to replace all the plywood along with roofing. Isn't this a considerable added expense?

You simply add on top of it. More protection.

The plywood is actually peel-n-stick as well. The best practice requires removal of all joists or trusses. It's also advisable to keep a big tarp handy if rain comes while you're house has no roof. Personally, I just spray about 15-20 cans of flex seal on the backside of the top floors drywall, add sod and a hottub, now that's hard to top!

Maestro Eric, may I ask a question about overlay the roofing? I just have someone install the flat roof for my sun room. But it looks horrible but they kept saying that it's normal. Then they used the coating on it and it looks worse that I'm almost heartbroken. Since I always stare out of my studio's window with our beautiful view at 2nd floor everyday and will see the roof everyday. Can I put the peel and stick rolling roof on the coating directly? Fix a leak properly, it isn't hard. Don't patch a leak with a bandaid.

But yes, it can be applied in the one-part application. Just reduces the warranty by half. Two-part is the base sheet with the cap sheet, but you can fo one-part, just applying the cap sheet over a primed deck.

No, one layer is base sheet (all black), the second layer is cap sheet (granulated, comes in different colors). Orange home improvement store will sell common color of the cap sheet, but maybe not the base. They can order it in, though.

This Liberty system is 3 ply. The base layer which can be peel and stick WITH a primer (he didn’t do it properly here) or mechanically fastened. Then the second layer, then colored cap sheet. Look up GAF Liberty flat roof and you’ll find instructions and videos.

yes, make sure the surface is cleaned up before applying the new membrane, try to apply a roof coating, I think will be cheaper than installing peel and stick over the roof.

You go by the roof slope. Every flat roof has a little slope.

Parallel the the bottom slope. He calls it a flat roof here, but it is very very slightly sloped so water can run off. You start with the bottom course, and work your way up. When you lap them correctly, water will run off this roof. Also, when you do the base sheet, you cut it in half longways so its first course is only 18" wide instead of 36. Then do full rows from there, then when you go back with your cap sheet (the one with the granules), you do full 36" rows for each row. This way the seams are off-set.

GAF suggest in high wind areas to use a mechanically fastened first layer. IF you're going to use peel and stick, you're supposed to use a primer on the roof deck. He should have done that. After the base layer, the second peel and stick is very good. There are GAF videos here on youtube. Just look up Liberty GAF.
