I'm glad this guy posted this video as it shows what you should never do! peel and stick underlayment is a very bad idea. once you get to a point when you need to replace a roof and you WILL get to this point, your cost would incredibly expensive. Contractors won't be able to take it off the roof deck. Sticky part is extremely aggressive. It will fuse to the wood and the cap sheet will fuse to the underlayment. And hence they won't be able to verify if nailing of decking was done properly and won't be able to remove everything properly. It will be extremely labor intensive. as you can see he already did a bad job at putting OSB down - all sheets meet in the same location. So, you would have no choice as to replace decking again. this guy doesn't think about the maintenance of the roof down the road. I see a lot of praising comments here but his video is just bad. do your own research. always put mechanically attached underlayment. avoid expenses down the road.

Thank you for your video. Question: What is the minimum inches (4" or 6") overlap?
@OMGITSAAAJ2 жыл бұрын
Quick question. According to the GAF warranty it says that you'll get a 15-year warranty if installed on a primed plywood deck.. What does that mean simply a clean plywood deck is that considered primed?
@watertiteman2 жыл бұрын
Primed with an asphalt primer. Problem with direct to deck install is, it will crack eventually along the seams of the decking. A small cheat is to apply a 4" strip of synthetic underlayment along the joints in the deck, that way the shearing effect is minimized.
@russelleaves54356 ай бұрын
so this can be applied to shiplap tongue and groove type decking on an older house. the base will stick to that with no problem or should i nail felt first and then apply the base sheet.

You did very good other than the fact that you should’ve actually cut your very first piece of base at the 18 all the way across started with a half sheet so that way your labs don’t overlap with the cap sheet

Why didn't you use a SAM primer/adhesive on the OSB to make the barrier sheet stick better ?

Because I have not found it necessary and when I was trained by Polyglass they did not teach that.

How hard will it be to tear off the base sheet 15 years from now when cap sheet needs to be replaced?
@Rick-yi6kk5 ай бұрын
You’ll have to re-deck the entire roof. Search problems with peel and stick on the tube. Miami Dade code requires synthetic underlayment if using peel and stick so it can later be re-roofed.
@mcw35602 ай бұрын
@@Rick-yi6kkI don't understand. Do you mean that the felt goes under the peel and stick? If "yes," doesn't that defeat one of the main purposes of the peel and stick, namely that it adheres to the deck so that water cannot get underneath it? I understand the difficulty in getting it up.

Will this work on a flat patio roof? Do i need any ashesive?
@thebrickandstoneguy3 жыл бұрын
It needs to be stuck directly to decking. It’s not an overlay product.
@thebrickandstoneguy3 жыл бұрын
When going straight to decking use either asphalt primer or flashing cement (rubberized tar) at least on top of edge metals prior to installing the cap sheet (colored granulated top sheet).

Not clear what you current roofing material is, but if you already have a peel and stick system you have to know if it has a non-stick or self-stick base sheet system. You cannot install any product over a granule top sheet. If it has a non-stick base sheet you can just remove the cap and base sheet from the substrate reusing your deck material, but if you have self-adhesive base sheet most contractor will simply remove the deck material and replace it with new plywood or OSB.
@12vLife3 жыл бұрын
@@etow8034 Replacing the plywood or OSB right now sounds insanely expensive. I'm just wondering about future replacement if going directly over the deck.

I wouldn't use this type of roofing for your main house roofing, but they are great for garden and tool shacks with a low 2:12 slope. In Canada go with IKO Fast-Roof 95 Base self adhesive base sheet and Fast-Roof Cap sheet.
