Great speaking to you at the South Central meet this weekend. Your van set up really was an eye opener. I'm glad you made this video too, as I can use it as a reminder once I've knackered out my lead acid batteries 😂

Very nice set-up & very well done, simple thorough explanation of your system! One of the best I ever heard. The only thing I would have done different (maybe, depending on how swollen those Grade B cells are and get, once fully charged), is to create side compression on those batteries, which will help extend their life. For the Grade A build you do next, make sure add this feature to your 3D print design. Keep up the great work. Subscribed

Thanks mate, that's great advice, I am in 2 minds about compressing as there is so much out there about Lithium cells, I haven't compressed the cells and they are slightly swollen, Im looking at is as if you are drawing a lot of current and charging at max then the cells will be worked hard and continue to swell but if your only drawing small amounts of current as in I'm probably drawing about 250A divided by 4 batteries = 62.0A each then the batteries won't be worked hard, It is a learning curve, I will probably compress the new cells and run a comparison with the Grade B cells, watch this space, Cheers mate👍

Can you connect this directly to the alternator for charging or do you need a charger in the middle? Also got solar mppt and running an inverter.. I just need to know whether it's a direct replacement for lead acid or do I need to modify the system? Thank you, great video:)

Hi, you defiantly need a charge controller that is designed to charge lithium batteries, you can't use a standard charger on these batteries, hope this helps and thanks for watching.

i only have a compressor fridge running 24hours in van.think its about 35 watts with thermostat flicks it on and off.and just some led lights plus usb s to power.i run van as my daily so batteries getting well charged usually.we camp off grid for 1 to 2 days a time before moving on and recharge batteries .maybe wait till agm batteries die on me.can get a lifepo4 ready to build next year.fogstar have grades a 75£

With regards to your fridge you need to monitor how many time and for how long the compressor kicks in over 1 hour, work out how long it is running over 24 hours and then calculate your lighting, you should be able to workout how much power you will need then size you batteries accordingly, hope that helps mate 👍

@@adamshayes I have the Renogy battery monitor also it’s quite a new fridge made by vevor..One of my solar panels may packed up been showing just 10volts or it’s faulty monitor epever or sensor .

hi adam.just seen your lifepo4 build.im thinking at moment ive got 2 115ah leisure agmbatteries in campervan.they were new last year.recently i left a cable off one of batteries so it went down to 6 volts.i did recharge it think its bit weaker now.i have solar panels on roof 200 watts solar plus dc charger victron.im thinking i would only need 1 lifeoo4 pack as thye can discharge lower than agm lead acid that right?steve

Hi Steve, Yes that's right you can discharge to 80% and because they have a BMS it won't let you discharge below that so it cant destroy the battery, Thanks for watching and Good luck mate 👍

If you wire four sets of four cells in parallel and then the sets in series you only need one BMS.

Absolutely correct but I wanted to have 4 separate packs as I can just unplug them and take them to be charge separately, also if I only had 1 BMS and it fails my whole system goes down, Thanks for the comment and watching my videos, Cheers Adam👍

@@adamshayes 8PCS now cost almost £600 quid now which is 200ah. You also need to buy a BMS module. You can get a prebuilt 200ah bank on ebay for £845... Hmmm. I think there are some on aliexpress that are much cheaper, but its always risky since they can send you crap grade and ali express will always take side with the seller. Deffo going this route when my AGMs die though
