God told Kory Robertson, wife of Willie Robertson, when she was praying about being a failure as a mother: “ I did not call you to be successful; I called you to be faithful.” That puts the nature of God into perspective. He knows we are limited in this world, and he wants us to take courage, do our best and look to Him. That’s all. If He is not condemning us, then neither should we.

If the Lord won't insult or berate us, then why should we do it to ourselves? He lovingly corrects us when we are in the wrong, but He does so out of compassion and a desire for us to be our best selves. We should do the same.

I had a bishop who asked me when I felt that way, who wanted me to feel it? Either Heavenly Father or the adversary is saying it and if it's discouraging, who do you think is saying it? I answered the obvious, then my bishop said "That's you how you can recognize who's talking to you and know to ignore it". We all feel we've sunk to far, but the kinder we are to ourselves and the more we choose to believe the Savior is helping us, and to trust Him, that anxiety will disappear and we'll grow stronger.

But yourself is very important because if you keep saying bad things to yourself you will start to belive them, and same goes if you are saying good things about yourself. How are you blessed? There have been answers to my prayers. Changes within my mind and heart, people including themselves in my life, service opportunities. I'm so grateful. I've gone to my bishop and had discussion with him. I'm so grateful for the counsel he gave. Changes in behavior have been encouraged and I'm in better compliance with commandments. I LOVE THIS! Self compassion is so important! I almost wish the animation at the beginning was a little different though. I wish the girl depicted would have hugged the critical voice in her head. I think that Christ won’t ever take away our difficulties, but he can help us accept and love the parts of ourselves we either can’t change or struggle with. I’m not saying we should listen to what that critical voice says about us, but that we should not be ashamed to struggle with low self esteem or negative thoughts, because that can prevent us from seeking help. As we make efforts to be friends with ourselves, every part of ourselves, I think it is silly to assume that voice will disappear. BUT by having faith in Christ and our own ability to improve, we truly can diminish that voice’s influence!! So appreciate the church speaking to this issue that really persists today!

I had this problem for a long time but, with God's help, I overcame it. Our loving Heavenly Father commands us to love not only Him with all our souls but also our neighbors as ourselves. And that equality is important. Sometimes we may treat ourselves like figurative gold and our neighbors like figurative dirt, but sometimes we can do the opposite instead; in any case, neither is correct. Ideally, we should treat ourselves like the Savior does---with patience and kindness and a sincere desire for us to repent of our sins and to become our best selves.

At some point or another, we all had to deal with these counterfeits of the adversary--self-criticism, self doubt, and comparing ourselves with others. The realization that we are all unique in our own way, and that we are never defined by our mistakes, is a step into self-compassion and acceptance. Let us remember that we are destined for greatness. If we look at ourselves and others through the eyes of the Savior, then we would see that we are all alike unto Him and He loves us unconditionally.
