Would you like to know how much pain you can inflict with your thumb? For example, here are a few simple defence techniques that can be used against a bully using your thumb rather than hitting.
Hitting a bully may have its place but if you want to be inconspicuous in your defence you can apply pressure to pressure points using a thumb or finger.
The first thumb technique is aggressive and would be applied in a situation in which you know you may suffer injury and you want that bully out of your face quickly. Note that even in this strike, the hand is cupped so the thumb is doing the striking/poking and the fingers wrap to the other side of the neck. The cup of the hand helps avoid striking the bully's throat.
The second series is used when a bully might be manhandling the victim or just trying to intimidate and scare the victim. The sudden and excruciating pain sends a definite message.
If you are in Nova Scotia or the Halifax area and are interested in training with us, send me an email at mastermike@fournierhapkido.com.

Yes, he did throw himself to the floor. He was hamming it up. But it is painful just the same.

The second you get them in a bind they will attack. The first one would work but the second one requires you to look away from their eye movements to focus on their arm which isnt going to just stay there while you search for their specific weak point.

Plus this is on the off chance they are not wearing a shirt or jacket which will make finding pressure points harder.

@@michaelmorse4444You make good observations, however, bear in mind that in this context I am merely showing where that pressure point is and how to activate it. This is not a one-pressure point activation to defeat the attacker as it is mostly a set up for other techniques or strikes or takedowns. I have done this on big boys who volunteer for the two arm activation, on each arm, and they go right down to their knees in pain. Once the grip is released they will straight away attack and then it's a whole new ball game. You are right in your thought on how this could roll out without a plan to disable the attacker and disengage. I would love to have the opportunity to fully explain that short clip in the video if you come to my school for a free class. We can all participate in a pressure point attack class for any "what if" scenario.
