No, he doesn't. This is nonsense. The Oblique kick does do disproportional damage, but it isn't a magical fight ender. Your opponent is still going to be able to fight. They're not likely to feel the damage unless you kick them over and over again; good luck doing that if you're not a trained fighter. If your right game is based on exactly one thing (in this case, the oblique kick) you're not going to perform well in a fight. I will say that this IS better than most self defense videos on the internet. But it's still promoting the idea of some kind of fight ending super-move, that doesn't exist.

I used to do that in sparring at the dojo Its really effective and shocks the other guy giving u that split sec to slam into him .obviously we were sparring and not full contact , plus bare feet .But through getting caught myself with same technique my shins were black and blue.And that was from being kicked with bare feet. Great move if u cant avoid a fight.

In my experience, the kick showed is effective as a stopper.Note that, you don't always have to kick the knee, against a advancing opponent a kick to the shin will definitely change his intention to fight of most unless he is vicious or otherwise.But not sure it can be applied in a clinch though, you don't have enough balance to do that.

This is why I think a good martial arts guy can take an equally trained boxer. Boxers aren't used to getting their knees kicked or defending against a knee kick. Knee gone, boxer gone.
@derspatero

I don't get the hate for this move in MMA. Yes it can wreck a knee, but so can kneebars and heel hooks. and career ending is nothing when neck cranks can leave someone driving a wheelchair with a straw. I would rather get straight kicked in my knees by Jones than grapple with Aoki or Palhares

This would be my third or fourth choice if someone grabbed my arms. I would rather use the closest target and drop a headbutt; at least that is always my first move unless I get an "energy" he has me locked out with his arms stiff. Otherwise, just do a "circle" toward the thumb which is weak...and you're out immediately.

It puts your attacker in a trance mode. The kick, with shoes on, puts pressure on his leg and if you are a guy with strong legs it will make him tremble due to your power. Make sure you kick with the heel in a movement were your foot slides to the outside so you can bend the attacker's leg. It can break his tibia or patellar bone.

True in theory but nobody taps in MMA from heel hooks until injury occurs. There isn't enough pain until tendons pop and giving your opponent time to tap out is giving them time to escape. If an oblique kick was so dangerous, we would see it ending fights or at least playing a pivotal role in setting up KOs but I cant think of one example of this. Watch an Imanari highlight video and then tell me this kick is worse:)

Getting kicked in the shin will hurt more than above the knee or at the thigh. Being hit anyplace where there's less muscle or fat surrounding the bone will inevitably hurt more because the nerve ending in the tissue surrounding the bone has less protection.

Maybe. But the goal is to live. Paul teaches striking and immediately evacuating the area because life is not a karate movie nor is it an MMA fight. You strike and get the hell out. Opponent's Friends, bottles, knives, glasses...anything at hand, will be tattoed on your face if you stick around to admire your ground and pound technique. Maybe you're fighting a wrestler who can counter an oblique kick, as you aver....or maybe you're fighting a criminal psychopath with buddies. You don't know. That's the point. You don't know. And your way is dangerously cavalier.

@@djrychlak4443 so does bjj it teaches to gain quick dominance of the person and you can you a choke quickly and they pass out then you get out of there or you can gain control of them and chose not to hurt them until the cops come or if it's multiple people it's still teaches you how to use best ways to maybe use a push sweep or something ro push them away especially if it's a girl then get out of there. I'm sure pull stuff does that too I'm not saying it doesn't but bjj is not just sport like people think it was originally made for the street and real fighting and self defense then they also made bjj sport with modifications
