Well, I've been grabbed from the front and behind bear hug probably 40 times over the 18 years I've worked the door. I suppose perception forms our world view. We practice a variety of moves based on what could happen. Just because a person hasn't 'seen' something, doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Thanks for the lesson! I recently almost got into a big fight with an older brother, and it was the very definition of rage, fortunately family was there and held him back. But now i have the confidence to properly execute a take down when rushed if push comes to shove in the future, thanks again. An empowering lesson indeed.

Sean, if that was the case we would change the technique. There are different ways to do this. Please post your video to show us a better way. Thanks for your comment.

I have never in my life seen someone attacked by a bear hug.

Yeah, you have a got a problem with velocity. If you're 165 pounds, wet, and the guy who is bear (bum) rushing you is 260 pounds, you're not going to stop him with suddenly dead nerves from a neck strike. You still have 260 pounds of forward moving mass. At what point do you get a chance for knee jabs, or controlling a neck?
