Her message is just "do whatever you feel like". Which is pretty much synonymous with "never learn".

A role model where she promotes having fun being promiscuous rather than having kids a family and getting married?? 😂

"Being in the music industry, as a woman, surrounded by men..." Cut to a picture of her with Kermit the Frog. :) I guess he is a guy.

Somewhat comically she actually depicts the polar opposite of what I got from the lyrics here. I always interpret it as shallow aestheticism: you pay attention to yourself and make excuses not to do things, only caring for those in a superficial charade. A lot of the lines in her song seem to refer to this ironic self-centered perspective that doesn't make you happier like "I someday hope the best night of your life was the absolute worst of mine" and "I wish you the best, but I also hope you fail miserably without me". Here she is basically saying those lines are to be taken literally because that's good? She kind of destroyed the entire song in one go for me. Instead of being double layered it's basically unapologetically "just be a piece of shit if you feel like it".

I think it's more like being human is not black and white and that's ok

@@megwhite6295 Right, but how did you get that from the interview? She's basically just stating "just do whatever YOU want". Almost literally even at 2:30 ish somewhere. The whole juxtaposition is just... gone. The message in the lyrics is, according to her, to be taken literally: do what you feel like, even if it's being an asshole to others.

@@ThefamousMrcroissant I don't get the "even if it's being an asshole to others" part at all! How are you getting that from this?

@@megwhite6295 The lyrics themselves. She's pretty clearly describing someone I would consider self-centered and coping through deflection. And in the interview she basically comes off as that being the exact message: just do you. There is no ulterior double meaning to any of the lines apparently; it's just her being fed up adapting to others.

@@ThefamousMrcroissant Yeah like I said, i feel she's saying being human is not black and white and that's ok. You don't have to be perfect.

I disagree. Her point is she was miserable when younger and is doing far better now at living her own life in a way she chooses etc. That's not so bad, if a person isn't an ass.

I take great pleasure in trying to make the world safer and better for everyone. Prioritising pleasure doesn’t necessarily mean “hedonism for me and screw everyone else” - that’s just how it’s been hijacked by certain modern ideologies.
