Ian Harford and Steve Wild return to the magnificent Alaskan wilderness for another epic hunting adventure. However, this trip will be slightly different. This time Ian will be self-guiding and Steve will be accompanying him.
Welcome to the Self-Guided Hunting in Alaska on Team Wild TV.
Revelation Mountain Outfitters guided Ian and Steve a year ago where they spent several weeks amongst the difficult, yet stunning surroundings of Alaska. (Click here to watch the full series now - • Hunting in Alaska ) This time they decided to do things a little bit differently, self-guided hunting offers new opportunities, but also new challenges.
Ian and Steve begin their journey into the Alaskan wilderness around 110 miles north of Anchorage. An entire years meticulous planning and preparation has finally led them to the start of their epic journey. Every item of equipment has been carefully chosen for it’s specific purpose and to keep the weight to a bare minimum - there’s simply no space for superfluous gear.
After arriving by plane in to what will be their home for the next few weeks by their bush pilot Cole Hawkins of Hawk Air Alaska, Ian and Steve begin their first task of setting up camp and building shelter. They are greeted by clear skies and bright sunshine, however the weather in Alaska is very changeable. Warm and sunny one moment could soon turn into dense fog and torrential downpour.
With camp finally set up, Ian and Steve head up onto the ridge and glass over the topography. The beautiful afternoon sunshine belies the very hostile nature of this environment. Here they must keep their wits about them and prepare for the worst that Mother Nature can throw. It’s a surreal experience for Ian and Steve to finally be back in the wilds of Alaska and focus is now very much on the challenge ahead.
Next time on Self-Guided Hunting in Alaska - After nearly a year of preparation, Ian and Steve head out into the wild and begin their epic adventure.

@Team Wild - my buddy and I are looking at western AK along the Yukon next year. As much as we'd like a fly-in DIY, we're both BIG guys. I'm 6'6" and 240, he's 6' and about 265. I can't see us flying in on Super Cubs without needing 4 planes in and 5 or 6 coming out.

Brian Bagent yeah, could be. I’m 200 and Wildy’s 240 so you’ve got some headway on us in that regard. Having said that, we also took a cameraman and made it out in 3 trips so you should be ok 👌 all depends on what you harvest...

@@TeamWildTV - good to know. Should be a few guides I can talk to at HSC and DSC in January. Going to be a bit of a cruncher I think to get everything together between now and September, so we may have to postpone until 2020. We're only going after moose, and while a big rack would be nice, as long as it meets legal minimums on width or brow tines, I don't care. It'll be our first trip. If you guys are planning on DSC or HSC, would love to meet you.

Brian Bagent possibly, but not confirmed my calendar yet. If you send a message through our Facebook page we can stay in touch and arrange a meet up. I can highly recommend Revelation Mountain Outfitters. We used Tony last year for our guided hunt and took 7 of 8 tags in 15 days (with some hard hunting!) They also have a good success rate on moose. If you check out last years Alaska series it will give you an idea of how they operate. I believe they have an early September slot next season that I may be packing/assisting them with...

Ian is a US citizen and can hunt moose, caribou, black bear and small game without a guide. Non-resident aliens need to be accompanied by a guide for all big game hunts.

Its interesting your title of the video is "Self-guided Moose & Caribou Hunting in Alaska" but looking at your other video you guys are not from the USA.. According to the Alaska hunting regs "Nonresident aliens (non-U.S. citizens) hunting any big game must be accompanied in the field by an Alaska licensed guide and the guide must be within 100 yards of the nonresident alien when they attempt to take game." Hmmmm

Self guiding for Big-Game as a non-Resident is against the law in Alaska. Non-residents may only hunt birds and small game without a licensed guide.

Not true. Non resident American citizens may self guide for all species except grizzly/brown bear, mountain goat and dall sheep. Non-citizen foreign hunters cannot self guide for big game.
