1. Commit yourself to end rumination. 2. Register rumination- time , place, people, situations. 3. Focus on your sensations. - Noise, skin, taste , scenery around, touch. 4. Refocus on the task. Doing chores and hobbies. Focus outward activity. Mindfulness. 5. Distract yourself - sing, dance , listen to radio, walk your dog 6. My way out of ruminating is to remind myself that I am not going to solve anything this way, that I'm stuck in a loop. It may *feel* as though I'm doing some serious thinking, and I must continue! But more and more I catch myself, realize I'm just spinning my wheels.

Vanshika, If thought rumination is affecting your health internally you must visit a psychologist. Heal yourself as follows--Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing negative thoughts-anxiety-stress. For a relaxed life sit on a chair, back erect, hands on lap with palms upwards, eyes closed, be still and observe your natural incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 10-15 minutes. Be as still as possible. Many thoughts will come which is ok--slowly negative thoughts will reduce and your mind will relax. During your daily activity keep observing your breath consciously. I have a really odd ruminating thought(s), that ruin my life and I fall into the worse of depressions Every time I am in a relationship, the first 2-3 months are great. After that, I start ruminating about my girlfriend’s past. I start thinking about why they stayed in relationships that according to them, they were miserable in. My mind starts judging this person, whom when I started the relationship with her, I thought they were smart and strong woman. Once my rumination starts, I see them as weak and stupid women. I don’t want to or choose to see her like this - it just happens. I do have to admit that the rumination starts as my girlfriend start having fights and/or arguments. Perhaps it is a way of my brain telling me that I’m in and unhealthy relationship and/or that this person I am dating, has a lot of emotional trauma. I seem to attract women that from the outside seem fine, but once the relationship becomes more intimate and perhaps after the short honeymoon stage is over, the arguments and fights start and soon right after, my obsessions and depression follow. The pain is real and unbearable. I lose the appetite for living and I don’t see myself ever being able to be in a healthy relationship. Unfortunately, I am going through this once again. And this time I feel like I am going to throw in the towel on this living thing. If there is someone out there that has conquered this type of rumination and/or greatly improved and learned to manage this rumination, please help me. Again, I think my rumination is unique, but if you have the exact rumination(s), please help me.

I think the best thing you can do is seek help. You still have unresolved problems from relationships before. I am currently having same problems Because i was in toxic relationship before and now I am not in one , but sometimes something trigers me and i overreact. That is Because i still need to work and clean myself from relationships before. I am also ruminating in thoughts Because I think the same things will happen in the new relationship. So my advice again is to seek help , Talk to them about your previous relationship , solve , forgive , heal and also religion helped me a lot , I believe in Jesus and after all these steps I feel much better but there is still a lot of work to Be done

Maybe.... 1 this is related to a drive to integrate totally with the group (couple) you are in but this is unrealistic as others and ourselves cannot be perfect. 2 this might lead to fear then of relationship as integration goal is equivalent to losing yourself 3 You reject relationship to maintain your self Maybe... 1. solution could be to exercise intellectual compassion for the fallibility inherent in ourselves and others. For example bravery (virtue) should not be seen as fearlessness (lack of intrinsic fault) but of effort to do right despite fear (to strive towards virtue despite our innate weaknesses). Self-compassion too! 2. To reform your view of relationships as "one shared soul" to a partnership, dance, companionship model. This way you and other can still both have realistic expectations and when one stumbles, the other can remain apart, remain standing to support and offer stability to other. Then the relationship can continue if healthy and good for both, and each may be fairly considered as they are, and you can fail yet trust the other to guide you back and also partner can stumble and you can as respectful partner offer way back to shared journey. Good luck 👍 Edit: on rereading, I wonder if there are cultural pressures for men and women to showcase unrealistic images of themselves, eg man = strong, no problems, provider and woman = sweet, subordinate etc. Also you may just be following pattern leading you to partners who are abisive or are emotionally unable to maintain realistic healthy respectful relationships. I think you are right to not want emotionally unhealthy relationships and soulsearching will lead to you finding and being the kind of partner you are sad to not have.

I been struggling with rumination 24/7 and the only way I think I can deal with it better is having a strong mind set but I haven’t been able to lately but I feel like I deal with it as I’m talking to people scrolling down social media driving home .... I compare him I’m feeling to how I used to feel when I wasn’t dealing with depression ... and that makes me feel worse

During my struggles, counsellors told me that thoughts weren't facts and feeling bad shows how much you care. So next time you feel horrible about something you've thought or done, ask yourself if it's based on truth and remember that you meant no real harm and feeling this way shows how much you care for others and how they feel about you. We all make mistakes and we learn not to repeat them which makes us better than we were before.

What helps me is completing household tasks in my mind, e.g. imagine yourself cleaning windows in as much detail as you can - how the cloth feels, how cold the water is, how your shoulders start to ache after a while, how the suds run down the pane etc... Alternatively, I imagine myself grooming a horse (again, as much detail as possible). If your mind strays, lead it back to the task. Usually takes no more than 10 minutes to fall asleep.
