1:45 this seems flat out wrong. For example the theory of the soul by Aristotle which was widely embraced in philosophically minded Christendom (especially the Catholic Church), actually agrees that plants, animals and humans derive their order from a principle which governs their internal processes which we call "soul". So basically, self organizing patterns would have been no surprise to medieval scholastics. In fact, there are cases recorded of scholars observing such patterns. St. Thomas Aquinas wrongly ascribed the seemingly uncaused appearance of larva on rotting flesh to built in organizing qualities inherent to the flesh. Of course, I am not trying to discredit what you are saying, you are right in a sense. But still I think the dunk on religion doesn't work here.
