I've been collecting records for over 20 years and I've amassed a collection of around 800. So 200,000 is just mind blowing.

This is why I think it's absolutely pointless having that many records. Unless he's trying to sell them.... which I think he is. Obsession is an unhealthy affliction.

I can relate to your story and what it's like. I've been a music lover my whole life and a record collector for about 40+ years with around 10,000 albums. And Jon is right when he says you don't build a collection like that overnight.

Truly inspirational I enjoy the concept about selling them. I don’t get access to a local record store and any fetes fairs or record swaps are almost non existent in Reigonal areas so the idea someone like this comes to town really is outstanding. To see what you’re buying in this field is pretty damn good. Unfortunately more than ever there are few too many schonkys on places like the Cogs

I collected as a teen, then jumped to the the CD trek, then back to vinyl in 2017. Up to 2700 now - doubt I'd ever make it to such a huge collection. Would love to dig thru his stock for sure though. So much undiscovered music.

Major record companies must think they are in Sales heaven, people gave away their records to buy CDs when they hit the market - now people are giving away their CDs and buying records again. Customers actually believe that their 180 gm, remastered, virgin vinyl record they paid $70+ for sounds better - because the record company told them it does!

I started collecting in the 1980s and at my peak had around 5000. But really, I can understand 200 000 as leftover record shop inventory but keep it and and collecting to that degree is probably mental illness and should not be encouraged. There is a strong cross-over between collecting and hoarding behaviours.
@BennyTheBall88993 ай бұрын
Spot on, it becomes the attaining something rather than buying it after a while, and you end up with loads of stuff you will never play. I would rather have a collection of say 50 albums that I actually play lol.

You never know who is looking for what! I've been in urban areas looking for rarer soul and it's been picked through. I've been to east coast stores who were light on jazz Lps at the time. I've been to the upper mid west and found numerous obscure soul artists on cd.
