As a new stitcher I have been looking for a video to explain/ show the difference between all of these yarns. This is the best one yet! Thank you!

Wow, thank you so much. I had no idea because I’m about as much of a beginner as one can be. I just started my first project, a crochet shawl that was a free pattern on Caron cakes. The pattern is pretty Lacey. Not sure from the top of my head what exact kind the yarn is, but it’s a thicker 5 weight, 61% cotton and the rest acrylic. I really like variegated yarns and very smooth transitions, having an abrupt color change would ruin my WIP to me. This is a good thing to be on the lookout for.

I totally agree with you. I have spent a fortune on the self striping yarns and you are so right, it is offensive to the eye. I thought it was just me. Your scarves are beautiful with the Hobie yarn❤

I agree with you about the harsh changes within some yarns...I don't "love" them. And I do "love" the way Prism transitions. Thanks for the video!

I love your review. I agree with your opinion. Remember we can stop and change colors at the end of the row, but that could waste yarn. You’ve been busy! I especially love the item with lavender that looks like you ran some satin ribbon through it. - at least on camera. That’s my favorite item. Great work and thanks 😊

Thank you, Kimberly. I'm so glad you enjoyed my review. I realize I fell off the face of my little place on this KZbin planet for a long while. That being said, I've still been crocheting up a storm and hope to return in the New Year to reveal what I've done and what I've learned. Please accept my apologies for my very late response. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season! 💕

Great info. I agree with you, the red heart self striping is nice and I also like the red heart ombré! it seems a little softer. Thanks for the video!!

Thank you for your feedback, Lisa. I'm sorry I've been away from my channel for so long and neglected to respond sooner. I hope to be back in the New Year. I'm not a huge fan of Red Heart yarn per se, but, yes, for a more budget yarn, they sure do a good job on their self striping and variegated selections. 💕

I absolutely love Red Heart Stripes. The colors are so bright, and the transitions are good. They look great in Chevron/ripple blankets. ❤

Hi Sandy. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. I agree with you on Red Heart Stripes. For a reasonably priced yarn, the stripe effect is very well done!

I totally agree with you. Some self stripping yarns are horrible. I have pretty much changed to solids and hand dyes. Except for play things.
@CreativeCrochetWithRhonda Жыл бұрын
I understand how you feel, Annaliese. One bad skein can spoil it for any potential good ones. ;) I do find that I prefer ombres for the softer transition beween colours.

The Prism yarn is beautiful. When they change abruptly, I color control them, so they don't change in the middle of the row or round! This was very interesting.
@CreativeCrochetWithRhonda Жыл бұрын
Thank you, Sally! I'm so glad you found this interesting. I think that, sometimes, colour controlling is necessary and, in my opinion, in some ways, I'd rather just use my own solid colours and combine them on my own. 😁

Thank you for the suggestions about colour-change yarns & showing your beautiful finished items (some of your suggestions are new ones for me to try). Something that might help -- occasions when I have a disappointing cake/skein of colourful yarn, I have used it for stranded knitting or moss stitch. Also, have pulled the colours apart & used for granny squares.

I have also had quite a few issues with Caron self stripping yarns. If it's not dye issues, random color splotching, knots connecting colors that aren't supposed to be next to each other, then it's inconsistency from cake to cake even within same lot number

I tend to enjoy ombre better, but that swimsuit cover you worked up looks awesome, did you say you had a tutorial on that? Thanks for the upload

I agree as well some color changes are horrible. I have to color control so often. Ombres, I love. Mandala by lion brand and red heart are great and beautiful. Hobbii has a great ombre line too.
@CreativeCrochetWithRhonda Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching and for your feedback, Kimberly. I haven't tried the Mandala yet and I am looking forward to getting that opportunity. I agree on the Hobbii ombres! Their yarns typically work up so beautifully! As for colour controlling my self striping yarns, I find that annoying...What's the point then? I may as well add my own colours from my solid skeins and make my own beautiful colour combinations. I expect self striping to be just that, but sometimes its just more of a mess.
@kimberlymendenhall4449 Жыл бұрын
@@CreativeCrochetWithRhonda sometimes it is a mess. But with the right stitch and project; it can become a beautiful creation 😊.

I am working on a sweater now that I am color controlling and when yellow transitions into gray it leaves a wide area of greenish yellow where they transition. A 2 cake sweater is up to 4 possibly 5 for the sleeves before I'm done.

Oh, Annaliese, that has to be so frustrating. I say that's just a bad self striping yarn you're dealing with. You should never have to go through so much yarn to fix what is supposed to be there for convenience. That's just my opinion and two cents worth. 😬

Well, likewise, I appreciate your feedback. There are so many yarn choices out there and, of course this is a small sampling. It really is all trial and error, but isn't the mystery of working with new yarn so much fun anyway? 😊👍Thank you so much for your support.
