I listen to as many recordings as I can when I learn a new piece. I must admit that I don’t like using the metronome but I know that it’s helpful for everyone.Also, I did a trial lesson through an app called Zoom.😊❤️🎶🎼

Metronomes are Gods. When you keep them unning through the whole piece then you start to notice irregular your tempo is

When I listen to recordings, my first impression usually is, "yike, I suck. Why do other people always sound so much better?". It never cross my mind that I should try to mimic the recordings.

when I first started learning I thought the same thing, but then I realized I was limiting myself trying to sound like them. Then I realized listening was good for a lot of things but to be them. I found being my best self at a peace made me way better than to be like someone else.

The only concern I have with what you suggest is for students preparing for jr high/sr high solo and ensemble contest(which is the age I mostly have as students). There the judges are looking for the student to play exactly what’s on the page - so mimicking someone else would not be in their best interest. That’s a huge reason I use and recommend something like Smart Music! Then they’re listening to their solo in a rhythmically accurate way, and also learning what the piano accompaniment sounds like. Also great for people that don’t like using a metronome. The recorded accompaniment becomes a musical metronome :)

Can you make a self-taught tips for the piccolo? I already play the flute and I recently got a piccolo. I notice that it's difficult to get every note in tune. Articulation is very difficult as well on the piccolo. It would be awesome if you could do a video on that. :)

Two things. Do you have a top-three recommendation of books for the self taught student AND, Here I found self-taught tips #3 three and Five more tips for the self-taught (is that #2) but I can't find #1 😩 and #2, if the Five more is not it.

Hey , i am a sophomore in high school I’ve been playing the flute for 5 years . Right Now i am playing a beginner flute and I recently had an audition and im pretty sure that messed my audition up . The point is that i think its time to upgrade my flute . I saw a flute its called Trevor James Privilege . Is it worth getting as an intermediate flute ? Im on a budget so i cant waste more than 1k

Hey Joanna, could you make a video on how to choose a piece? I don't know if a piece is too difficult for me. For example, I know that the Mozart concertos are at the ARCT level, but I tried to play it and didn't find the notes all that hard? Thanks so much!

Same! I am 13 and I tried Carmen fantasy and I felt it was not too hard. I am a little bit confused, am I that good?

I need a piccolo for my college in a regimental band but Piccolo prices are too expensive to afford. Is there a chance you’ll be doing a piccolo give away?

What do you do if you're a self taught that uses the metronome as a guide because using it constantly like a click track is distracting from the music?

I have the same blind spots so this helps thanks Joanna I have a question what do you do if one of your pads on your piccolo falls off do you buy replacements or do you take it to the shop
@oscarrh8005
@oscarrh8005 6 жыл бұрын
If you buy pads online they could be the very cheap kind that’ll end up falling out sooner than if you take it to the shop!

I’m self taught and I listen to many recordings, often of the same piece that I’m learning. Sometimes I listen to a phrase in a piece over and over and then try to imitate it. My problem is that I can’t always work out why my phrasing isn’t the same as that of the recording even though I know we are playing from the same score.

Maria, it's called artistic taste or interpretation. Just remember that you must start the first measure on the ONE that starts the first beat, usually means that your foot starts on the floor and stops on the floor to begin the second beat of the measure you had just entered, then you can kind of improvise how you distribute the next musical notes along the three remaining beats of that four-beat measure. Of course if you impovise too much, you might as well re-write the song you are playing. Classical music is much stricter and improvising, even just a little bit, will usually get glares from the conducter.

When you say self taught do you mean students who don't take private lessons or students who literally have taught themselves how to play the flute & not starting in band? Just wanna know so I could feel included cause I don't take private lessons

Isaac Navarro She means people who weren’t able to take private lessons and they taught themselves. That was me throughout middle school and high school.
