This is my second greenhouse video, where I talk about my 5 gallon self watering buckets that I made several years ago. If you have any questions or comments, go ahead and leave them in the comment section. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

I see so many of these versions on the net. But THIS is the original. And is cleaner. Thanks. I might try this now.

Use silicone caulk to seal the tube or O rings to seal he tube. Very simple!

That or a bulkhead fitting, this is exactly what they are made for, easily sourced on Amazon, just pick your size. I have used these for years on my company's lawn spray truck rig drop tanks.

Instead of weed cloth, I would just cut up an old bed sheet. I would also not cut a hole in the middle but just poke it into the net cup. I think it would do just fine
@amberyooper
@amberyooper 10 ай бұрын
Yes, I would imagine that an old bed sheet would work, especially if you have an old one to use.

@@thehazelnutspreadnahahaha my family has grounded me from goodwill for that very reason! I’m planting every single flower I have this year in stuff I already have around house. Was thinking about using sheets doubled up as grow bags, but can’t figure out how to keep them from getting moldy. I’m in the Midwest - rain and horrible humidity

Dose it work ?❤❤
@amberyooper
@amberyooper Жыл бұрын
Yes, it works pretty well for most plants, although if you use it for a tomato plant, you have to pay more attention to water and fertilizer because tomato plants usually have a big root ball and need a lot of food in a small container like a 5 gallon bucket.

extravagant, time consuming and costs a bit for all that versus just using a cotton wick from the plant root burried to the bottom which is a thousand times simpler and cheaper.

I wish you luck, if we don't add peat. How about we add only red soil? Does this system work
@amberyooper
@amberyooper 2 жыл бұрын
This system works best if the soil is loose. Adding vermiculite or pearlite helps with that if you don't use peat.

How far up did you drill your drain hole?
@amberyooper
@amberyooper 9 ай бұрын
I drilled it just below the level of the shelf inside the bucket. You want to get as much water into the reservoir as you can, but not so much that it starts to saturate the dirt sitting on the shelf. The idea is to have the water wick up into the dirt from the hole in the middle of the shelf instead of flooding the dirt at the shelf level.

3:46 sir, can we use mosquitoes net instead?
@amberyooper
@amberyooper Жыл бұрын
I don't know if mosquito net would be strong enough to hold the dirt up out of the water in the bottom of the bucket. It would probably sag too much with the weight of the dirt.
