I was coming here to say this. You need to find where and how that plastic was sourced. Last thing you need is to destroy your endocrine systems, and likely more. Recycling plastics for gardening is an awesome idea, but you basically need to be a chemist to know if those reusable bins are going to be a positive overall.
@chrishall14075 ай бұрын
They go over this in the full video. However, considering how little effort people put into gathering information on any particular subject I can see the need for it in these tiny blurb type videos.

@@kingurameshi2183I got that on my skin once.. When i worked at Danish Crown, we had a machine that made all the scraps into mink food. And that machine was cleaned with Sulfite, breathing it in was horrid.. And getting it on your skin would burn for a long time.

For people not having space or money to build this: May i recommend using Ollas. Use wax or aquarium silicone to glue two clay pots, with the open side, together. You could add a third on top for easier filling. Now bury them in the ground, make sure you water them well so the earth is clinging to the sides. Now fill them up with water (or before putting them in the ground) And close up the hole so no insects can get inside. For better instructions just loo atound on YT Hope my idea is of help

Love the common sense of these. You could have water loving plants getting the excess water. I put a large ice cream container under my bromeliads when potting them. They don't need watering as much and are thriving since I started doing this.
@shannonbusse67025 ай бұрын
Awesome information, can i just ask if that runoff water can be reused? Like, in theory, I would love to just pour it back onto another plant as I'm thinking the water has picked up all kinds of good nutrients while filtering through the bed. Or is there something I am missing? -I am an enthusiastic amature.
@nopyliamcgyver29624 ай бұрын
Absolutely. There's nothing wrong with the run off water other than it being too much in quantity for the particular garden bed.
@spudsmckenzie41232 ай бұрын
Yes because of it runs away you're just wasting nutrient-rich water for your other plants. A few cheap 9L buckets will sort you out. A tip though, get the ones with the wedge-shaped spout on one side, makes it much easier to pour into a watering can.

I feel like pipes to drain water should be on the bottom of the bed? Aren’t you going to have some water always at the bottom that never drains?
@zlyfire5 ай бұрын
That's the point. The water wicks up into the soil for the plants. The drain is to make sure the entire substrate isn't saturated so the plants aren't flooded

Looks like it's wasting water if it drips out the bottom. 🤔
@AmazingAutist5 ай бұрын
If you read the diagram that is for overflow.. that happens when there's too much water. So it's important for the water to go out if there's too much because you don't want the plants to drown. Not to mention, this prevents a mold as well as the fact that the water is going into the ground where other plants are going to be.

In comparison to buying an "official" dripping system this is cheap. It does safe a lot of work on the future. You must ensure the planting Container isnt to high so the roots are able to reach the lower, moist ground. Same principle as in some planting pots for the window sill

@davinasquirrel76725 ай бұрын
Lower cost than some other raised beds. Of course, you can just use the ground (and not a raised bed) if cost is your deciding factor. These can be used for many years, so I really do not get your 'a few crops' statement. Plant different plants in succession.
