Another great video. Great job with the new windows and really great to see both of you doing all the different aspects of fitting. I had no idea that there were different grades of sealant guns. Hopefully that will help others doing the same. It's going to be interesting to see how you deal with the leaking larger window. Looking forward to the next episode

is it better to warm the tube of glue?
@SelfBuiltStoriesАй бұрын
Yeah definitely, when it's cold it becomes incredibly hard to get out of the tube. We left in an a warm airing cupboard until we needed to use it, and also made sure to use a heavy duty sealant gun as well. The dinatrol is a lot thicker and harder to squeeze out than other sealants so anything to make it flow easier is worth doing as you really want to ensure a nice consistent bead all the way around with no gaps! 👍

Hey there, great video! So I am checking out these windows on Leisure Vehicle Windows, and was concerned about the fact that they are ONLY glued in. Most of the van windows you see on KZbin are screwed into back frames from the inside of the vehicle. Do they work fine by just being glued to the metal siding? That concerns me. Thank You!!
@SelfBuiltStories2 жыл бұрын
Cheers! And absolutely no problem that they're glued in, if installed correctly. There are different types of windows and these ones we've used are bonded windows, which are designed to just be held in with adhesive. It's exactly the same as how the windscreen is held in place in your car, or windows on a minibus. Most panel vans have recesses in the wall body to exactly fit a bonded window, which is why they are all custom sized for each van, and even which side of the van they're on. We actually had to remove ours the first time as we had a couple of minor leaks which is one of our other videos, and can tell you it was a huge amount of work to get it off the van again 😳 As with anything if installed incorrectly or with the wrong adhesive etc then there could be issues but done correctly no problem at all 👍 Other types of windows like the dometic seitz that have the frame have different pros and cons. You might prefer to have a squarer one with a frame, or possibly double insulated etc. Comes down to cost and preference really, you could install either type of window into the same area. As well as port hole ones and probably many others types too 🙂

Don't forget,, your windscreen on your car or van is also just bonded in too and they stay put just fine. 😊

Fantastic video. Where did you get the small windows from please and how much were they?
@SelfBuiltStories3 жыл бұрын
Hey, we got them here: leisurevehiclewindows.co.uk/ford-transit-2014-xlwb/. They're listed as 'BONDED UNIVERSAL HALF SLIDER PRIVACY WITH FLYSCREEN 580mmx 200mm', in near side and offside versions. At the time we bought them, they were around £100

What is the name of the primer and adhesive you used?

We used Dinitrol adhesive and primer which was the one recommended and supplied by the window company: www.leisurevehiclewindows.co.uk/van-window-bonding-kits/ 👍

Windows are in! 😉👍 Are there no inside frames? Just glued? 😳🤷♂️ Judging from the gloves, jackets and stubborn sealant - you must be WAY ahead in your built. 🚐🛣 Are you travelling already? Oh - and tomorrow we'll be in ️⚽️ competition at Wembley 😊 Any wagers, you two? I'll take Germany by 2 goals? 😉 Viel Glück, best of luck and bon chance! 🍀😊
@SelfBuiltStories3 жыл бұрын
Yes and they make a big difference to it feeling like a campervan 🙂 We'll be making some window frames at some point for the inside, but just for the aesthetic side of things. Hmm not quite travelling yet, we wish! But yeah bit a further on now, takes a while to find time to edit the videos 😄 Had a few other things taking our time so the build slowed down a little bit for a while but more to come soon! ⚽️ who knows, but we have home advantage 😏

@@SelfBuiltStories I humbly concede to the Brits, that showed how awful the German squad was playing. Drinks on us when and if we should cross paths someday. 🍻😎
