If your shorter you don’t have to go for the knee, you can check his ankle or even his toe as long as it’s still moving. This is supposed to stop oncoming momentum so that you can change your opponents trajectory which is coming straight at you. After you have checked the knee you then can sweep your leg down and create an obstacle for your opponent to fly over.

We practice this kick with a scissor jumping technique... Believe me it's a game changer and maybe the one and only technique that ends every attack instantly. Unfortunately and maybe thankfully at the same time you can't practice full on.. Keep up the good work guys, excellent video.

Really effective kick, - we used to train it with hockey pads. Very efficient.

In kumite in the dojo I used bare feet shin kick .It's amazing how it hurts with even bare feet ,let alone with foot wear on.And most of us wore shinpads ,but used to come home with real heavy bruised shins. To the unexpected attack good hard shin kick followed up with a elbow smash to a shoulder is a good fast technique.

I'm much older now and never really professionally Trained. But practice made perfect, and this kick, when executed effectively and efficiently, stopped some much bigger and probably or potentially tougher men dead in their tracks back in my youthful and blissfully ignorant days. A well-timed, solidly placed and strong front kick to the gut, also almost always gave me some extra room to retreat or attack. Whichever was wiser and safer.
