From a guy who’s been in dozens of street fights as a teenager and young adult I disagree about allowing an aggressor to throw the first punch. If you can’t leave and you’re feeling threatened ALWAYS strike first. If you get hit first, 90% of the time you’re in big trouble! Few untrained fighters can withstand a strike and maintain the ability to counterattack and win. The first fight I was in I hesitated and got hit hard in the jaw first. I was able to grab ahold of the guy and thankfully others broke us up. My mother taught me at a young age to always get the first punch in and Deal with the consequences later. I never got hit first again and never lost again. Yes, I spent a few nights in jail but better than in the hospital or worse, the morgue.

From a long time LEO, the proper words, the proper words are "I was in fear for my life and I stopped the threat." An extra layer of protection is to refuse any comment until your lawyer is present. "I stopped the threat." needs to be your mantra.

I haven't been in a fight in over 30 yrs. I have been able to de-escalate or get myself out of it by making wise choices. I'm a pretty decent sized guy, muscular, and ppl say I'm intimating. I've used all of that to avoid fights as well as thinking smart.
@ashuranero5721
@ashuranero5721 7 ай бұрын
The reason you were able to avoid fights was most likely just your size, not your deescalation talks. That doesn't work if you look small, weak and like a easy target in the eyes of others

@@ashuranero5721 I'm 6ft tall but used to be extremely skinny (I was a h/coke addict) and found myself in some pretty intense situations, sometimes facing several dudes keen to whoop me. Yet I always managed to talk my way out and deescalate things without having to fight. It's not the just the words but also the voice, inflections, body posture, the way you look at people. Show respect & warmth - while letting them feel you're not a victim and you're crazy enough to hurt them as much as possible if they choose that route. There's almost always a way to avoid violence/getting beat up

@@ashuranero5721 deescalating is about not letting your ego get you into the fight. There are some things worth fighting for, such as when you see someone bullying others, or when they are corrupting the youth. But if a guy just wants to feel better than you and is willing to fight you over something so petty. you are being smarter to avoid getting into a fight because his brain is like a child. If you aren't likely to see him again, it's not worth letting him know he is a idiot. If he is someone you will see regularly, then you should deal with it, maybe just not talk to him anymore because some people can't change at all. There's always gonna be people who don't like you if you are the exact opposite of them. I don't get along with steroid users as I am a natural, but they are everywhere. I tolerate them as long as they aren't encouraging the youth to go down the same road.

Even an unskilled opponent can get a lucky shot...or sue you. And even if it is their fault, but they end up dying (because they fell and hit their head, had a heart attack, got an infection, etc.), the real battle will now take place in the courtroom. Plus, if you are a halfway decent person and someone dies even remotely related to you, it will destroy you with guilt for the rest of your life.

This channel is interesting, and I'm sure this guy is a helluva fighter, but you gotta disregard all this "fair play" legal bullshit. I been in literally around 100 street fights in my life. As a young buck growing up in the Tenderloin district of San Francisco (among other places), a street fight was an everyday standard thing. I think my record is 3 different fights in 3 different places within 1.5 hours. All that said? I never ONCE stuck around to deal with any fallout from a fight. 1st rule? Win as fast as you can. 2nd rule? Always stay on your feet and aware of your environment - none of this MMA grappling on the ground bullshit. What's to stop someone from coming up behind you and kicking your head in if you're rolling around on the ground like an idiot? Final rule? Insta-vanish after. All this "getting into trouble" nonsense doesn't apply if you ain't around after. Phone cameras? The fight's over way before anyone whips out a camera, at least if you know what the fuck you're doing. Yep, definitely only ever fight as a last resort. But once you're in it, the only thing that matters is to win or at least survive by any fuckin means necessary. If you get killed in a fight, what the fuck good did the "rules" do you?

1. if you can run, run 2. if you can't run look for the most advantageous place to start by stalling with your hands up and out while being nonthreatening 3. They will charge you or try to get a cheap shot in, be ready to defend and counter 4. If you countered successfully use that to your advantage leveraging them and trying to keep them pinned 5. After you have them secured call out for others to call the police, DO NOT let them go. Keep them in a controlled pin as long as you can. Ideally until the police get there. These are pretty realistic rules. I haven't watched the video yet.

Great video. There are some instructors who try to make the case for striking first, which is a no-go in Canada. If you are in the woods being kidnapped, then go for it, the assault has already started, but in the cities stick to Rule #2 if Rule #1 fails or you need to enlist Rule #3. Try not to put the head on the neck, it has been subject to several police related deaths, best to avoid it or put it on the head if you have to with less risk to crushing the windpipe. First aid is life over limb.

Depend on how you define victory. Its victory when you fuck him up, but then face court/jail time + pay court costs, lawyer + possible medical care for that idiot and some fees for damage of his health + maybe some property damage etc. etc.? If you training some martial art, you should be able to withstand few punches from attacker and it really improve your position before judge and thats what actually matter.
@CharlesKidney
@CharlesKidney 4 ай бұрын
@petersedliak4362 If you feel under treat, that should be defence in a court. Martial art training won't prevent you from taking damage if a blow connects hard. That could be it for you. If it comes to the point where you feel this person means business and you can't walk away. Then just let him have it, strike first, strike hard, no mercy. Otherwise, you could end up with permanent physical or mental damage. Even dead. This isn't the movies where people walk away with designer bruises and some artistic blood pattern. People can be seriously messed up, and letting someone hit you is insane.
@petersedliak4362
@petersedliak4362 4 ай бұрын
@@CharlesKidney Well nobody said you should let somebody hit you in the face. Its somehow obvious that you should at least try to catch that punch into block. Im just telling you that that first strike from your side can cost you quite a lot of troubles, money and time and therefore, it might be good idea to think strategically before you launch that preemptive punch. If you facing some 110 kg fit guy who obviously know what hes doing and you are obviously weaker, maybe you can reasonably justify such act in front of judge, but if you shred some guy +- same physical constitution as you, might have face hard time in court room and very costly consequences, thats all.

He was forced to defend himself against an attacker, but also unfortunately the only onlooker saw his first punch rather than the attackers first punch. He had to fight the legals all the way. Make sure in some states in the US you know the separation of assault and battery. If they are separate you have to wait for assault to assault(grabbing/grappling) and wait for battery (striking) to hit them back. If you accidentally get too fired up when the assailant throws a punch and guard to clinch and throw him down to stay safe you might get into trouble for assault because you grabbed them first. I know. It's a really annoying thing in law. One that doesn't make sense to me.

1. Run 2. If you know you have to fight, hit first. 3. Make the fist or attack end the fight.

Guarro v. United States, 237 F.2d 578, 580 (D.C. Cir. 1956). But, of course, an assault can also be committed "merely by putting another in apprehension of harm whether or not the actor actually intends to inflict, or is capable of inflicting that harm.

Great advice. Avoid fighting. Too many legal issue especially when you damage your attacker. Get it on film is the most important. Without video the attacker can claim you started it and you were the aggressive one.

Someone on YT came up with the same idea I was thinking. Kevin talked about having your arms up in a boxing position to protect against an attacker launching the first punch, often referred to in the U.S. as a, sucker punch, blindside, cold cock, dirty hit, falsecrack (Hawaii). However, to witnesses and to video cameras and CCTV, it might look like you are engaging in a duel, that is, a one-on-one brawl, in which both of you will be blamed and arrested. Instead, have your arms up but open your hands, palms facing out, fingers stretched apart. This gesture clearly demonstrates to witnesses, phone cameras, and CCTV that you are the one on defense trying his best to avoid a confrontation by appearing conciliatory, "Hey dude, I don't want any trouble." If the troublemaker launches a sucker punch, at least your arms are up to block his fist from hitting you in the face or head. Now you can strike back and follow the rest of Kevin's advice; put him down, restrain him, look around, or take care of him if he's unconscious. The whole idea is to go home safe, sound, alive, avoid jail and avoid lawyers.

The first and major thing is, unless your bite it off and swallow it, you can't choke on your own tongue. It's physically not possible, it's an attached muscle. Second, what are you covering up with that ink? Gang tattoos?

So….according to this video, I’m with my wife, toddlers, and elderly mother, clearly and without a doubt not looking for trouble, we are accosted by someone who is clearly threatening us, and now I’ve got to go through my checklist which includes not only enticing them to attack me but also me providing medical care to them if I prevail? If I prevail against an assailant who: 1. Is not using a checklist. 2. Who isn’t following the rules. 3. Who may be under the influence of drugs and alcohol. 4. Who may have a weapon. 5. Who may have buddies waiting to jump in or hurt my family. Did I get all that right? My toddlers are in mortal danger but I need to primarily focus on what a DA is going to think about some herky jerky cell phone video? Go ahead. Maybe your mother’s obituary will mention your gallantry and legal acumen as you tried to defend her life. At least no charges were filed against you, amirite bro? I hate “reaction” videos, in general they are fake and stupid. But I’d love to watch a reaction video of Lee Morrison watching this video. If he could even get through it without dying of laughter.

He just said a guy sucker punched some other guy and the guy fell back hit his head and died, Then he just said let them throw the first punch. ??? Why let him throw first? So I can fall back and hit my head and die?? The guy who went outside and got hit and died obviously wanted to fight, so I wouldn’t call it being suckered, he followed him outside after being challenged. Never let him hit you first. If he’s too close and you think he’s gonna hit you, let him have it!!You’re either ready to fight when I’m ready otherwise you’re getting hit, and if that’s the only hit I get in and I just piss him off, I still have him something to remember. If we’re fighting we’re both going to try to be first. Don’t let anyone take a swing and then start fighting. If you’re going to let them be first you might as well not fight at all. You better off calling the cops or running away.
