Getting knocked down, stomped and kicked on the ground is a worst case scenario. Here's how to (maybe) survive that and, just as importantly, figure out answers to questions like this on your own!

Jiu-Jitsu is a great sport, but at its core it’s a martial art and that means knowing how to defend yourself in terrible positions. Like this one!

Awesome video! Nice and realistic. Scary situation indeed. Cool jiu jitsu you hit Richie back with as well. I remember starting bjj (did it for 4 months) and standing above some good blue belts next minute your sweeped and mounted and tapping just like that hahaha

Your approach to this was spectacular. Your openness and thinking on this is how good martial artists should operate.

I uh… i think curb stomp is something different…
@Gitchyl5 ай бұрын
it is, but I believe since the is martial arts they dont allow that since that is more of attempted murder than fighting, also I doubt that you could increase your chances if survival from that regardless of what you do,

If you're in a 1 on 1 fight is it unlikely the opponent would be able to curb stomp you? I mean it's such a bad way to go out and if hate if it could happen in a 1 on 1 fight@@Gitchyl

@@Pikmin_. well usually what people say is a curb stomp (the bitting of the curb) is typically less when two (or more) people are fighting and more went someone is taken off guard and forced to do it due to one reason or another. So in a 1v1 it isnt typical, yes. However it does happen unfortunately

I was gonna say the same. I don't think they know what curb stomping is

Getting your feet in between is key. Also, you can kick at their base leg. You don’t need a ton of power to disrupt the base if you kick at the ankle.

this is a very good question because stuff like this is illegal in most mma competitions. so mma fighters dont train in situations like this. i appreciate your videos ive been watching your videos for years keep up the great work
@SelfDefenseTutorials2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's mostly been illegal since the days of Pride Fighting in Japan and Vale Tudo in Brazil. I still remember those days, especially how horrifyingly effective Wanderlei Silva was with his stomp and soccer kick game

Curbstomp is when your face is perched on an actual curb (side of street, next to sidewalk) mouth is open and head is stomped on

We clearly need kicks and stomps in MMA to clearly and scientifically develop full knowledge about how to defend stomps and headkicks

You can watch the old PRIDE fights with Shogun Rua. He was a master head stomper haha.

That looked right, but the real thing is ferocious and you'll need to make that choice to go for a takedown, up kick, guard, or stand up extremely quickly.

This is great. Even MMA and as limited as rules, actual fighting competition, this would come up because of stomps or kicks to a grounded opponents being illegal. Great work to trial to a "parry" from the ground for kicks. Does anyone know if any old PRIDE fighting videos had anyone competently defending themselves to get out of a bad position from the ground?
@Crowcrowcrowcrowcrowcrow Жыл бұрын
The reason it’s illegal is because its deadly. If someone is curb stomped, their teeth with shutter, jaw dislocate, they’ll suffer severe brain damage, their tongue and lips might tare off or be cut clean off, their neck might twist in a way that will kill them/leave them disabled…

Bro. That's NOT a curb stomp. If you ever find yourself in that position, that vulnerable....you aren't surviving the stomp. Best to never get there. i.e face down on the ground and neck cocked back with face/ jaw on a raised thing.

What is being described here is football klicks or regular stomping. Curb stomping is something else entirely and occurs when a person is already unconscious, incapacitated, or significantly outnumbered.

Or you can try tickling their feet or behind their knees. Most people are ticklish in those areas.

When being stomped, there is a moment when they are being supported by you, and you can be an unsteady foundation.

To avoid a punch we learn to cover up Then later on learn to bob weave etc Its the same with the premise of this video Youd have to allow head kicks in sparring to Not full contact But allow the person to kick etc

Great ! Nice trying to be as scientific as that, to research what is the best option. If all mastial artists where like that there would be less cases of people getting hit while thinking they could easyly defend themselves by doing those super duper move in the direct ligneage of Shaolin their great master taught them. Or, also, less people (and I must confess that I was like that in the 90th while practicing traditionnal martial arts only) that are fleeing relatively low threat that whould have been better resolved with moderate force (ex : parry, shove back, using firm but calm voice to de-escalate but showing we are in control), because somewhere in the back of the mind there is still a doubt on our own martial arts expertise and if the technique we have been taught really works. So, a scientific approach is really welcome to dissipate the shadows of misticim and bigotry surrounding martial arts. Despite all this I like practicing Tai Chi, it's relaxing and fun... but I'm not reliing on it to defend myself ;-) You look like you are doing great despite the hip, Stephan. I wish you a speedy recovery to the sparring level again !

I thought the answer would be neither. More like get your feet in-between you and your attacker. Unless it's multiple stompers.
