Michael Wood train yourself so you will be ready. So you will have confidence and your SKILL and ability if you DO need to fight or do whatever it is that you need to do in that moment. Bruce lee talks about this. Search here on KZbin bruce lee FEAR and youll hear him talk about this. He basically says he trains himself so that if he needs to he have NO DOUBT that he can do more than defense hisself etc🤙😎

Training, sparring and competing will also have a huge effect on your confidence in such situations. It will help you relax somewhat if you know that you don't need to fight, but if you have to, you totally can.

It can also prevent a fight from occurring when your "opponent" notices you are not afraid. I think you talked about that earlier in your story about "woofing". Happened to me too and the "opponent" just chose to back off instead of punching me like he was saying he would. Best street fight is one that doesn't happen.

+Marcel Douwstra it definitely makes someone think twice about messing with you when they are barking as hard and loud as they can and you don't back down. Just being willing and ready to fight has saved me more than once. Still got jittery tho!

For me personally this is the single best explanation about the mechanics of fear in a stressful situation. I know for a fact that there are many people out there that would benefit tremendously if they would hear this. But then again, who am I to force anyone to be happy....

Thanks. I learned the hard way, with little advices from mentor. My first real pad work, I hope to impress my teacher and went all out right from the start. After 1st round, I was gassed out. My anxiety burned me out. Again, my first sparring session got me all tensed up. So I eventually learned not to rush the first round, and plan my training or fight for a long session.

I think that what makes you effective at fighting, or any stressful situation is your mind, with the right mindset you can beat guys even bigger than you like royce gracie and mike tyson did, they turned their fear into fire.

Breathing controls the attitude slow long deep is calm, panting is terrified. Excitement is excitement, fear and anger are both the same body state.

if you fight full contact, fear isn't a problem. Before a fight - yes. But that usually happens in competition - since you know it's going to happen - not a street fight. In a fight itself there's no fear. The issue is getting the brain to work while under adrenaline. That is the difficult part.

When you train against real resistamce aka (sparing and rolling) with different people at high intensity levels the moves become subconscious and fighting becpmes second natuare. It's the concept of aliveness which is the most important part of training. Also realistic situational training helps a lot (meaning rolling with punches on the ground and mma sparing) if you do that you wouldn't be really scared in a street fight. You'd be alert but not scared, but if the guy has a weapon it's a different story. Anyway fear is good it tells you you're in danger so maybe you shouldn't numb it out completely

I hate the fact that this happens to me in almost any physical confrontation. Even if I know I'm not in danger or that I know I could easily whoop the person's ass. If I fight as a sport, I don't feel anything but a little nervousness and excitement about the fight. But if it's in real life, I can't even move or react properly because I begin to shake uncontrollably. This even happened a few months ago when a female was stealing at my job and I confronted her and she became aggressive towards me. I was obviously not scared, but the situation itself triggered that on me and I couldn't even talk right. I had to go to the office and sit down and I was shaking. I felt like such a p....... But at the same time, I know it had nothing to do with fear, because I wasn't afraid, but at the same time I know my brain was telling me to be afraid, and I can't control it. Hopefully this video might help me.

thats what I always think with things as chisau, in real live your hands are going to shake, it can be used as tool for finding the holes. But without proper test under high pressure, it does not serve much.

Seen a few comments here that even if you're not scared initially but the longer it goes on you start to shake especially if you are trying to defuse the situation eg being at school or at your job where fighting is not really a smart thing to do. Is it something you will ever get used to? It does kinda help to control the breath and calm down but man the shaking sucks even if you know how to fight a little

Aslo I have learned from the Samurai,...recite a poem to calm yourself. If I am at a urinal and can't pee because someone is close by, I start doing math and that distracts my fight or flight reaction and I can pee.

If you seriously want to confidently respond to real life situations I think you have to compete against strangers in at least semi-contact, preferably full contact. Your regular training buddy sparing dance just doesn't have the air of unknown fear generation eventually.

My problem when I get into violent situation is I forget to keep my voice down. I need to learn how to remind myself, stay quiet, let my body do the talking, not my voice. So fists up, closing the gap, saying "come on mother F'ker lets go" only thing is my voice tends to be stronger and louder, I wish I could simply be much calmer verbally, like, what did you say, then smack smack whack choke, lol. Maybe there is a technique on how to learn to train oneself to keep verbally quieter so as to not attract others attention and sound like enraged you know ? Please submit tips below in reply if you know of any, please.

NO, it's Not okay to breath in and out of your mouth like that, especially while in a fight. Breath in your nose and out of your mouth; yes, consciously control your breathing (which will be elevated).

I dont think there really are any "techniques".... and i dont think youd remember them when it happens, even if there are. We just have to train dilligently to keep our hands up and to stay mindful of our breathing and we have to spar a lot. Particularly, remind ourselves in sparring that we may have to use these things in actual fight some day. Sparring and at least occasionally competing are the best preparations imo.

I did come across something (I can't remember where am fairly sure was on KZbin) that said some special forces are taught a technique to help them manage their adrenalin response: breathe in for 4, hold for 4, breathe out for 4, hold for 4 and repeat.
