1:28 " _Tell you what - I'm a big fan when I'm alone in camp of just eating right outta the skillet..._ " LOL!!!🤣. Brother, I'm a big fan of doing that when I'm alone at HOME. Don't even need a camp. PLUS, it's crazy how often I use my camp kitchen gear at the house when eating alone.

In the past I have used beach sand for cleaning the cooking gear and the plates & utensils and boiling the sea water in the pan to soften up any hard burnt food it's all easy to do. Thanks for the video.

Good to see someone beat me to it. I use pine cones of the smallish variety found where i camp in the PNW region of the US. Camp towl ie wash cloth are essential as well. Helps clean you pots and pans in addition to giving you something to wash your face. A warm towl on the face can be luxury.

Hey Dave, I recently attempted to make soap from wood ashes, after watching an old video on that subject you made, and it didn’t turn out too well. I had to use Beef fat instead of deer tallow because it’s all I had. Any chance you can do another video on making soap in the woods from ashes and fat? I’d really appreciate it.

David , great content, I would really like to see a video about crossing a river or large stream where you have no choice but to get wet, perhaps in cold or somewhat cold weather. Safety, procedure, how to pack/carry your pack, what to do to dry off as soon as you get to the other side, have a fire ready or something if need be etc... Having a well throughout methodology for making a smart crossing then getting dry and warm again could be essential for deep wilderness travel.

Off subject but: I’ve looked and still haven’t seen any videos on sharpening an auger… scotch eye or others. We run into them at the flea some times but they need a tune up. Thanks for another great video Brother!👍👍

Yeah good stuff, Ive done a lot of these. One thing Ive done a little and might try more is carrying a bit extra oil with me to camp as long as Im not trying to be ultralight. a few drops of food safe oil and a wipe as a final finish will help protect the metals, deep penetrate any grime stuck on, and most importantly prep the pot for the next cooking so my next meal doesnt stick as well. Everyone should know how to oil/grease a pan and be conscious of heat control to keep the pan easy to clean as well.

Thanks for the great tips! Personally, I like to bring a swedish towel. They don't weight anything and are a great addition to your kit.

On my solo hike of the CO Trail, I threw away my “sponge” which of course got disgusting! I started using a small short 2 inch piece of evergreen limb right off a living tree to scrape out my pot. Works great and just throw away the piece of evergreen when I am through with cleaning the pot. No shortage of trees unless above treeline so I usually carried a few pieces of evergreen if in the tundra area for longer length of time.

Man the more SRO gear I see the more I like it. Quality kit no question. Up here in Nova Scotia it’s just a bit out of reach for me price wise. If the Canadian dollar ever rebounds I’ll sneak an order in😂. Your common sense approach is great Dave. Thanks for sharing stuff worth learning.

I’ve seen most of your vids at this point and one thing I haven’t seen yet is you cooking with the titanium skillet, and the titanium canteen cook kit (I know you don’t sell titanium products anymore) but I have purchased a lot of your titanium products and it would be nice to see you cook/use those two products. Even if you use both of the titanium skillet and titanium bush pot combo could be a awesome video.

A desert hermit had a video on waterless dish washing. Just scrub with sand and sterile with heat. You'll eat a bit of dust each time but it'll be sterile at least.

I just got home Wednesday night from the hospital. I was at my deer stand working and all of a sudden I started itching around my ankles then my arms and then my torso at which time I decided I’d better get home and hit the shower because I’d gotten into something in the woods. By the time I got home I was a mess and when I started getting undressed I passed out. My wife called an ambulance and I spent the next 24 hours in the hospital. I don’t know what I had gotten into. I’ve lived in the woods most of my life. I’ve never had a reaction like this before so I’m pretty traumatized. What would you do if something similar had happened to you while deep in the woods.
@TomKirkman1 Жыл бұрын
Sounds like an allergic reaction to an insect bite. I had the exact same thing happen to me after being bitten on the foot by a tiny, tiny ant of some sort. I passed out after about 30 minutes. Woke up (luckily) about an hour later. I was told to carry an Epi pen or at least some Benadryl.
