Thank you so much for picking my recipe! I showed my mom and she was all smiles! Haha Glad you enjoyed it. And yes it’s a great one for those cold nights out camping in the woods. As a female, I know there aren’t too many of us bushcrafters out there so it’s nice to have Self Reliance Outfitters putting out videos to bring us all together to share our passion for the woods. Keep ‘em coming!

That is so awesome Tegan! I am glad your mom enjoyed seeing her recipe featured and congratulations! It was a very good recipe and while I know I twisted it a bit, it turned out really good. I will probably try it again and add some other things in as well. It was screaming for some carrots in my mind :) I wasn't sure that you were female from your submission so if I said anything contrary I truly apologize. We are starting to have more and more ladies to attend classes at the Pathfinder School and it is awesome to see! Thank you again for your recipe and I hope you enjoy your new cooking gear! Take care, Matt

Hi Matt, great recipe Tegan. When I carry fresh meat, I also put it in a freezer zip lock bag and freeze it, then when loading my ruck I put the meat in a wool beanie cap for insulation. It'll stay cold all day long and I've got my cap to wear at night.

One of my favorite things about this series besides the food of corse is Matt has cooked with all kinds of heat sources. Alcohol Stove, Fire & coals, Butane Stove, Coleman Liquid Fuel Stove & Isobutane Backpack Stove. Thanks for showing all the ways we can cook outdoors Matt

Well said! I often switch between fuel sources too, and making compensations for each isn't always easy!

A very traditional Scottish meal.. If I was cooking it, I'd add Dumplings to it (1/3 fat, 2/3 sr flour, pinch of salt, water to make stiff dough. Place balls on top of mince and simmer for 1/2 hour) If I'm going farther afield, I replace the mince (Hamburger for the colonials ;) ) with TVP, and use dried onions.

In high school the school cafeteria called this basic recipe "gravy train". Daddy calls it SOS
@donaldeugenealford40802 жыл бұрын
SOS it's corned beef in gravy over toast,tho I've seen some change out the chipped beef for ground beef,there both great.

One way you can prolong the safety of the meat in warmer days is line an insulated food thermos with Saran Wrap pack the thawed meat into it . Then freeze it right in the food thermos .. cap up when ready to transport for the day . The Saran Wrap assists with the removal of the meat and keeps the thermos clean

Nice and simple with everything you need for a tasty meal. FYI, when making gravies, mix up your roux using a little bit of cold water first before mixing with hot water. Hot water reacts to the thickening agent, I.e. flour/cornstarch etc. creating dumplings or lumps. 👍

Hey Matt this is MSG lol taught me how to do a flint and steel fire 👍👊trying to find the website and not letting me 😢 a good quick and simple meal is a can of corn beef hash and cooking an egg over medium or scrambled depending upon taste and then warmed up tortillas on the open grill aka fire then take out of the frying pan and small pot put it in the tortilla and then add personally some salsa on top and now you have a corn beef hash with fresh egg in a burrito with some salsa for added flavor ❤tastes awesome 👏 and can be done in one skillet and one small pot 👍and over a grill on top of a camp fire 🔥 total time 7 to 10 minutes 😊if your hungry or about 12 to 14 minutes if you’re going for scrambled eggs 🍳 👍

Looks good! But...salt and pepper! Mom made that for us kids and my wife made it for me and our kids. It is definitely and old standby - but we never took it to camp. I wonder why? It is so simple and easy to make, it's a natural camp meal. We just call it hamburger gravy and mashed taters.
