These are very well-articulated tips, so thank you. Helps me understand what's required for home selling in USA. I'm a homeowner in MA, but brought up in England -- still find the American mindset's very different to back home. I certainly believe in having a scrubbed clean home in readiness for sale, and removal of excess stuff, but it's surprising American buyers are so lacking in imagination -- and know-how -- that they need to have contrived staging to entice them to buy your home. Also, most re-painting I've seen in houses for sale (even those $700K+)is so slap-dash that I wish they hadn't bothered. Painting needs top-notch prep in a room that's been emptied out, including messy sanding, etc, but that has obviously been skipped. However, this low-level grade of work seems to con or satisfy many people into paying a higher price. Meanwhile I'm in disbelief. In our region of MA many houses are cheaply-done corner-cutting flips that similarly fool people with their superficial glam.

I agree with you on the sloppy DIY painting, etc. A homeowner is better off hiring a professional than doing it themselves if they can't do a professional looking job. Thanks so much for sharing!
