I bought my EOS 70D new and used it for one holiday. Since then, it's been stored inside a cupboard. I abandoned it for a Panasonic Lumix G9 M4/3 and that's been my main camera since then. I am going to start using the EOS70D, but I will need to buy a decent prime lens first. Thanks for your video, it created a spark!

This is an excellent introduction to the 70D. The one mistake I made initially was I was using it as an expensive "point and shoot". I found the manual brutal to read so this was a perfect 'tutor'. It provides all the basic knowledge to get started. The challenge is mastering the many capabilities and potential!

I know the comment is old , hopefully you have learned the 70D , however let me tell you , since 1800s Cameras were perfected , even today there are people making better images on 200 year old camera then 99% of people including Smartphones . Why ? Because , in taking Pictures , 2 things matter Light , and Composition ... Camera is irrelevant , of course im not saying sell 70D get 200 year old camera , what i am saying is get your Light and Composition perfected and your images will take on .

Wow!! This is video absolutely awesome. You should have at least 500,000 views on this video! It is absolutely the best tutorial I've seen. It's very clear, concise and easy to follow and understand. I'm a novice and I purchased this camera based on the positive reviews but I was so intimidated to get started because of all of the settings and options. This video tutorial made me feel very comfortable and confident enough so I can actually start using it. Friggin awesome video! I thought this was an official Canon video actually then I noticed the name was not produced under Canon lol This seriously should be released as a video with every EOS 70D sold. I have had this camera now since it first came out and have hardly shot anything beyond the Auto mode but decided about a week ago to finally learn how to use this camera properly after shooting some night time family shots with fireworks / hand held lights and deciding my photo's looked crap. I have watched a coupe of video's that show you certain features but nothing that takes you through a step by step guide for novices - that is until I found this video. Bill West, your video is awesome and Canon should be using it to all new D70 buyers because it really is simple, straight forward and is a great step by step for new D70 owners. I tried finding Tutorial 2 but alas, it looks like you have not made on yet - I hope you do. The only changes to your video I would make would be when you change modes, try and use the same background all the time to show the difference, I know you mostly do it with the girl but not always :-) In video 2 (if you make it!), please include how to set modes for various scenes and what are the best settings (i.e. What to set for fireworks for example). I'm a way off video 2 yet of course but I hope you do one. Thanks for a great video, i finally feel like I have a tutorial video that will walk me through the camera properly - bloody excellent job Bill :-)

This seems to be more of an introductory tutorial focusing on basic camera functions especially as they relate to taking still photos. I would highly recommend for anyone new to this camera as I am to begin familiarizing themselves with the camera by first reading in its' entirety the manual that came with the camera, (providing it came with the camera when purchased). Once you have read through the manual in its' entirety and set up your camera if want or feel you need a video tutorial that is at best introductory this video will fulfill some of that desire/need. Personally I would prefer something that is more in-depth that includes a comparison with similar models, reasons for choosing this model and why one might want to consider a different model along with needed accessories as well as an in depth tutorial on setting up the camera for both using it for still photography and for video all the way through advanced functions. Including tutorials on framing shots, exposure, and care.

Q2: lens selection depends on how you intend to use the camera. I.e.: portrait, action, real estate, etc. once you figure that out, pick a good Canon zoom lens.

The ring I believe you're referring to a to allow the placement of a lens filter which comes in many different uses. Thanks for your comments. It's appreciated ! Bill

You're right... The video is indeed a complete introduction to the camera but with an added twist - a detailed description of each of the camera's features and functions and how to get the most from each. That being said, there are many videos available to you on KZbin to address all of the things you mention. Good luck!

+Carolyn Pino The EOS 760D (exactly the same as T6s) differs from the EOS 70D only in that it has a 24mp CMOS sensor vs. the 70D's 20mp sensor. That's basically it. I purchased the 70D on 11/22/15 because it is a slightly more comfortable body but very light. It's similar to the more expensive Nikon 7200 that also has 24mp. The 70D IMO has the best features for a great black friday deal! I saved $500 through Costco ;-)

Ok I have a EOS 70D and at minute marker 37:21 it said I can adjust the sound options when mine is set to the movie recording settings. Mine doesn't have those wind filter options. It doesn't have any options for sound other than on or off. What's up with that?

+carbonfiberbutterfly Not sure if you found your answer within the last 2 months, but that ring is for manual focus! When you set your lens to Manual Focus instead of Auto Focus (AF / MF) you can use that ring to adjust the focus.

I have a question? I’m trying to find the part where you said while you’re in the camera you can go ahead and upload the Wi-Fi quickly? I find that having to stop the camera take it off the tripod and tripod and then try to upload Wi-Fi is very lengthy.

I just got a 70D for shooting real estate photography. Well I need to be able to adjust the exposure while in HDR mode but I can't see the adjustments being made live in the LCD screen. Is that possible? Any advice will help!

Why does the "Q" symbol, on the back of the camera, stand for "creative mode" instead of it being a "C" (Creative mode") button? C for Creative. Also, shouldn't the "Special Scene Mode" be SCM instead of SCN that's on the mode dial? M for Mode. I find nomenclature on cameras to be a bit confusing sometimes.

Regarding lens choices for video is the beauty of this camera. Any work! Consider what your shooting and choose the lens that works best! AF does the rest! For me a zoom choice works best. But wide angle or telephoto is also good.
