Shocking: Canon 70D - 2024 Review

I've had my 70D for around 10 years . Shot a lot of professional sessions with it, and also made some music videos too. It performed great, before I moved systems. Your video has inspired to go out and shoot with it again. so thanks for that. Great video and presenting style.

Don't rely on the weather sealing...Mine got wet up a mountain and stopped working. It did dry out a few days later thankfully but don't rely on it.

@danielmartinphotography it was so frustrating at the time. I was at the Mach Loop in Wales for the fast jets flying at low level. I was soaked wet through and as I went to photograph the only 2 jets that went past all day, my camera wouldn't work! Ended up making a 2 hour trip to the nearest camera store...Bought a 7Dii so it was a massive upgrade for a very good price.

I've built my photography kit around my EOS 70D and one EF lens I use a lot that gives superb results is the Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro USM non-L. My 2 most used lenses are that and a Canon EF-S 18-135mm STM. Thanks for a great video on this camera!

@@danielmartinphotography I bought my 70D off eBay for about $370 with gadget bag, battery, charger, all cords and user manuals, and a Canon 10-18mm Ultrawide lens. The shutter count was about 1,200 when I got it. Like new!

I have had a 70D since 2015 and see no reason whatsoever to change it. It's a fantastic camera body. I have a 60D as a second body and use them for both landscape and motorsport. Yes, I could buy something with all the latest bells and whistles, but the 70D does everything I need in 2024. Until it begins to limit me, I see no reason to upgrade.

I've had this camera for 9 years now and it's great. The only problem is that it's bulky for traveling (with the 18-135mm). I'll try taking it with a pancacke lens next time I travel and see how it goes.

I believe the 70d has a 29 min 59 sec maximum record limit. A lot of cameras have that limit. Hope that helps and thanks so much for watching!

I change it for NIkon Z6 II. the only thing I miss is the flip screen. Highlights, shadows, low light performance, ISO was Disaster.

@@montazownianr1 thanks for watching.. the issue with switching to the Nikon z6ll is it cost a lot more..around $1600. KEH has these used for $310.. it’s for sure a better camera! I was just looking at cameras for a lot of our new beginner photographers. Just trying to help them keep cost down.. thanks for the input!

@@danielmartinphotography Yes, of course, I got your point, I'm just happy with quality huge jump, and very annoyed with Nikon screen ;) In my first studio inside car garage I used Canon 70D connected to two monitors, one for live view, second for final shot, and I made lot of self sessions playing with smoke machine up to late morning ;) Good times.

@@montazownianr1 yeah those full frame cameras destroy the aps-c and MFT cameras in low light my main camera is Canon R6, and first back up is canon 6d, then I’ll decide between canon 70D and LUMIX g9..You enjoy that camera!! Thanks

This IS interesting: FWIW, the Canon RP I have and its a good portrait camera and good for evenings. Landscape wise sub 10 stops DR sees you using the Ansel Adams scale 10 stop method fast. I am not swapping mine but take your point - an ND filter will be needed sometimes. For landscape would you go with this fine 70D camera or stretch the bit extra to the 80D? I understand the 80D had a little extra DRange..........Anyway I will disagree with you on EF-S glass. It's lightweight and does a fine job, IMO. OK price for everything, but my preferred lightweight travel package is an EF-S24mm 2.8 fixed aperture pancake, 15-85mm EF-85mm floating slowish aperture and an EOS200D (SL2)....As small and lightweight as it gets though zero weather sealing. The 70D/80D are larger and take EF (FF) easier in the hand but I do disagree on discounting the super value EF-S glass....Cheers..EDI: I also have the EF-S 55-250....real small and lightweight and for kids soccer / non pro quick dogs etc it's a silly not to for APSC at the used price..again all JIMNSHO😂🙂Now I know I come at this from a non time critical hobbyist viewpoint - There is that always.

Sorry to hate on the RP! I had no luck with that camera. My issue with the ef-s glass is if you ever upgrade to a FF R series camera you'll be hit with the 1.6x crop. Like they say, there are 1,000 ways to do about anything! lol.. If I am remembering correctly I believe on the 20mp R6 shooting with the 1.6x crop on you go from 20mp to 7.7mp, somewhere in that range I'm pretty sure. Thanks !!

@@danielmartinphotography I am not sure I would tell anyone to buy the RP new but used it's fine if it fits, IMO....Anyway I personally think EF-S can be so very affordable used that it's not a mistake. If someone ''upgrades'' to FF they should consider your point but it's another ball game size and price wise usually (assuming bigger higher-end FF glass is bought). FF glass can be used on APSC (although not RF to EF(s) I understand)............Choices....My 200D (SL2) is v affordable and light with glass (only one option)
