They need your money more than you need their bike. Now, there's one thing you do that kills me, and you did it again in this video. How can you set that nice, clean engine onto that clump of oily, gunky mud/dirt?? I know you hit it with the power washer after ripping it around, but that specific area is nearly impossible to get fully, and you had a great opportunity while the engine was out. Take less than 5 minutes. But, I've been told I'm a clean freak...

Love watching his video as i learn so much. He really knows what he is doing on these bikes, ATV, and UTV. I wonder how he got these skills? Was he a motorcycle mechanic before or just learned this all on his own with lots of research and doing it over and over again. His troubleshooting skills on issues are amazing also.
@larrycone88213 ай бұрын
I would say he learned on his own because I am a traind motorcycle mechanic and I was taught differently in some areas. However he excels in perseverance and inspiration. Also he consults the manual to figure out the questions that he has which is very brilliant. He also tests things when he puts them together. I remember putting a Kawasaki Big Horn 350 together one afternoon and picked it up to put it in the frame and a little tiny piece of the shop rag had gotten squeezed in between the case halves so I cut it off with a razor blade thinking it would be okay. Upon adding oil it started sleeping out so I spent the rest of the night until about 2:00 in the morning completely tearing the bike back apart and removing the piece of Shop rag. He does a great job in measuring the ring end gap I've seen some mechanics put bikes together and not even check. Great job Joe!

While putting the cases back together, you should always do it by tightening the fasteners from each end evenly and not just crank down on just one end. I do enjoy your videos but as a person that repairs machines as well some things never make since to me. First the used $200 cylinder can’t be honed. Its plated. You should always sent cylinder out to be replated . They will come back like new for just shy of $300 and the bore with be better than a new OEM cylinder. Powerseal is one such company. There are only I believe 3 in country and all do excellent work Next if you’re tearing down a 96 with no history and have the crankshaft out, just have it rebuilt anyway. I fully understand the up and down pull on the rod test but in reality it should be disassembled and inspected to know for sure and the issue is that the rod may indeed feel ok but a fresh top end with maximum compression can easily show just how worn the crank bearings are. Also yes, invest in a parts cleaner tank and a bead blast cabinet.

There was no Orings on the power valve keepers when reassembled. (The thing you drilled and used extractor.) Both missing maybe you did it on purpose? They won't fall off with Oring installed. Having worked for myself for most of my life, I can say from experience that "opening a shop" is NOT always in the owner's best interest. He has a "shop" in his garage, and his overhead is minimal. Leasing or buying a shop is simply adding financial burden to a currently successful business venture. Building maintenance, taxes, state and local "licenses," multiple forms of insurance, etc, all take away from the profitability of the current venture. I worked out of my garage for 30 years and never had to be concerned with all of the other stuff. Many "shops" are an ego trip, which quickly come to reality when your checkbook is depleted. JMHO, YMMV

I loved to wheelstands on my Honda MT 125. So much that it ended up slipping out of 2nd gear all the time. So I split the cases and found worn dogs on the 2nd and supplementary gears. One shifter fork was worn down too. I got the new parts, put it all back together and found that the crankshaft wouldn't turn smoothly. I took it apart again, rebuilt it carefully following the service manual diagrams and...nope. I gave up and took the thing to a dealer. I got it back with 2 spare washers in a box along with the flywheel. WTF ? I was 16 and didn't know how to argue. I put the flywheel on myself and got the bike running. It went great.... and a week later the flywheel fell off. It seems there was a huge crack through the end of the crankshaft. I know I didn't do that. Another dealer fixed the mess in the end but I'm still angry about it. Some mechanics are awful. Not your problem but I needed to vent. I wish I had you around in those days.
