Great idea for a series of videos David. Well done. That tankard was a real stunner. I really found it interesting and am looking forward to the next one. Cheers,

The only one I took a guess on was the silver tankard - £3,000 , so I was a bit out. Thanks David.
@apierc13 жыл бұрын
I guessed £2.5k for the teapot, a bit off, £1800 for the badge/medal, not far, then before the valuation I guessed £8k for the tankard, so pretty pleased with the guess even though the final hammer price was quite a bit lower.

Wow ! Can't believe that tankard, i've never seen anything like it.

The teapot, oh how adore this, its fluidity of form, and subtle grace! An honest quality to it, and beautifully engraved. I am not as familiar with York silver so thank you for the information! Will definitely do more study on it. From what I have learned from you today, I gathered about 1,800,-2,000-I was definitely off!

Love the concept. As far as my skill in valuation of the items is concerned, all I’ll say is that I’m glad I’m not a dealer; would have been broke and starving years ago. Good fun though. What might be a good idea is to split the video into two parts, the description and auction house estimates in part 1 - with hopefully a good number of people commenting on their valuations. Then in part 2 the auctioning and hammer price. Leave it for you to decide when to upload part 2 . Stops people just scrolling to end and makes it a little more challenging. Just a thought I’ll shut up now !

Lovely tankard. I have a matching pair of silver goblets that were made to commemorate the 350th anniversary of The Company of Master Cutlers. Perhaps I should get them valued.

How intricate the tankard, looks pristine, and love the gilding. What does it weigh? I estimated 4500 😊 I would not buy it, a little too busy for me. But if it were gifted would put it on the mantlepiece.

I guessed 6000 on the silver tankard. All 3 objects were amazing, I’d be happy to own any of them.

If you continue these shows, might I suggest to mention or show on the screen what the current gold or silver weight price of the item being valued. Perhaps that would help us in our guessing of the auction price. Also, these items are mostly for collectors. The average "Joe" would normally be interested in such items. Am I correct in that assumption?
@DavidHarperAntiques3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bill. With items of this quality, the silver value doesn’t really matter a great deal, but a good point when it comes to cheaper pieces. I’m keen to show higher value items and would love it if someone watched the video and it helped them discover something of great value of their own!

The livery badge is fascinating, I wouldn’t buy it but thought more along the lines of 950 😬

York silver? Never seen any here in the USA at all. I guessed 1700, dead bang on. I did score a Sheffield plate teapot two years ago for... 2 quid... in a charity shop. It was a friend's Chanukka gift. The elephant livery badge. You're going to have badge collectors, knife guys, elephant lovers and ...call it 700 in my neck of the woods. In yours... no idea. I had that tankard figured for the thick end of 5000 pounds if it was silver, no matter who made it, without knowing anything about it. - it has to be 500 in metal alone. I was only off by 10%.(LOL)

I did not not to guess the price on the teapot, but I think it is much too expensive, I will never giver anything higher than 50 ! The badge max 5 for my money ! The Elephant in the room thing should be melted, so max the silver value, VERY ugly and BORING, snobbery !
