I just read this in a Facebook group for resellers on eBay, Poshmark, Mercari, Facebook Marketplace, etc.: "As a former postal worker I can tell you marking fragile makes no difference in how the package is handled (unless it is extra heavy, then it is a target). Always package your items to withstand a ten foot drop and have a 50lb box land on top of it. If you want your package to be handled as fragile you need to pay for special handling and get the special fragile sticker. If you go this route your package is not sorted by machine and is actually treated as fragile."

Record collectors always acting like you need a hazmat suit to handle records. It literally sat in a milk crate in a guys basement for 40 years before it got pulled out it for yard sale. light handling for photos/shipping isn't going to do any damage that wouldn't have happened naturally over those 40 years since it was originally purchased.
@kriscarrillo64343 ай бұрын
Get what you mean about how the records could be sitting in a box or crate collecting dust in a garage or wherever the previous owner kept them. But all really comes down to how the person took care of them all the years before. I would add that shipping can totally destroy a record , especially if not packaged right and labeled “fragile” do not bend . Once ordered a hard to find 45 and it was shipped in a paper thin type of cardboard and bent in half when arrived .That record was in 20 pieces.!

Some Record buyers also like the records to be removed from the sleeve so if there is movement in shipping the vinyl wont bounce a tear in the spine or inner sleeve. Love your vids keep up the great work 🤟🤙

The problem with the Crosley is that it could potentially damage the records as per my understanding (after my LP collecting friends grinded me for days after I said I wanted to buy one...). DISCOGS is a brilliant source of information on these.
@Renebean5 жыл бұрын
I've heard that about crosley as well which is why I don't recommend it to people who plan on playing the records more than testing purposes. I believe it has something to do with the force or the stylus that can cause issues but from my understanding it's after repeated use and long plays. Discog is another great tool to identify albums for sure
@Renebean5 жыл бұрын
@Nicholas the stylus isn't so much the issue as the tracking force. Crosleys can be pretty high at about 5g so prolonged use will definitely hurt a record. As I say in the video I use it to test certain spots on a record bad scuffs or imperfections I'm talking 10-15 second plays. Couple that with low volume sense I don't want the vibrations higher than need be it's not much of an issue. I fully understand these can damage a record if played for an extended period of time. After this video and hearing so many comments stating immediate damage upon one use I took it upon myself to take an album and have one full playthrough then took it to one of my buddies who has a pretty nice setup. I heard no issue and neither did he. If I kept playing the record and had the volume up I'm sure the results would of been different.

The problem with selling vinyl on Ebay is vinyl collectors are SUPER picky. As a rule I undersell and over deliver
@Renebean5 жыл бұрын
I can agree with that to an extent but I feel most all vinyl collectors are picky no matter where you go to sell them
@garlandragland5 жыл бұрын
@@Renebean That's true. Anywhere online is hard because they can't fully inspect them. I also feel grading is often so subjective, so I don't even do grading intentionally in my listings. I just try to give a general, but detailed condition description and undersell each time because I don't want that guy that says "you didn't tell me about the scuff mark on the sleeve 1/3rd of an an inch from the center left!" lol

One thing that can help is the whosampled website/app. Good things to look for: 1986-1990 rap/hip-hop Lp’s and singles. Old reggae/dub LP’s like 1970’s and 1980’s. Jazz from 1950’s & 60’s especially black musicians. Funk-rock, blues rock from 1968-1972. Dance music 1990-1992 of rave/oldskool type. Basically old black music is like gold! We don’t let go of our records, so they’re rare to come by. I have thousands of records i don’t even listen to!

Mint (almost never see these, even when you open a sealed record) Near Mint (look closely. Can't find a flaw? It's probably NM) Excellent (visually beautiful copy with 1-2 very minor issues, flawless audio) Very Good Plus (clean and scratch-free, slight wear around the center hole and/or label) Very Good (used but not abused, evidence of wear and handling; however, sound is not affected) Good Plus (scuffs, writing/tape/etc on label, surface noise that does not significantly detract from the the listening experience) Good (it plays without skipping, repeating, or being washed out by surface noise) Fair (recognizable as a record, you probably won't damage your stereo by playing it) Poor (my goodness - what happened to that thing?)

It is either a simple error in the link, or they sent you the wrong item and you got lucky. That's all. An alternative method to ship them that I use and have never had an issue is to buy very large bubble mailers and slide the record in between two larger pieces of cardboard for protection. I precision cut about two dozen pieces of equal sized recycled cardboard ahead of time for this purpose. By doing that it takes me less than 1 min to pack each record

Great tip with discogs. I don't use it as much since my pricing is based solely on eBay. Discogs is the more collector side of things and not the best for someone getting into vinyl starting out. Aside from fees which are simplified there I prefer the ease and traffic eBay offers. The grading standard that I use is pooled from a lot of vinyl sellers on the bay it's simplified.
