I haven't sold low priced items for a very long time. Work smarter.

Good advice, rookies will take offence though. I started clearing out estate sales for $1 each and most of the stuff didnt sell at all let alone make $10 You did have some caviats which are important, if you can source all in 1 or two locations, buy dirt cheap, and have efficient systems it can be good. But even then you should try to move into higher end while using that funding. Otherwise it is a dead end and may take years to realize.

I sell on Amazon not eBay, but same thing. I don’t sell tshirts. After Amazon takes fees and shipping and everything, even if you pick it up for $4, you are barely making any money. That doesn’t even count for returns.

I'll sell a low value thing if it's coming from my own closet. But even then it can be discouraging to see the tiny amount of money made there, even w/the mindset of 'clearing the clutter.' The one thing I dislike the most about reselling is taking pictures. Which is kinda weird since I love to go out and take pics of nature. I used to pet-sit/walk dogs professionally and I'd take photos of my charges, (one being my pfp lol), which I also loved to do. But for eBay, ugh and so far my least favorite thing to deal with when taking photos is clothing. Which I feel like is kind of a shame because clothes are easy and light to ship...for the most part anyway.

I think these negative comments are missing the point of the video. At the beginning of the year I analyzed what I have been sourcing for years. Some things just don't make sense to buy anymore, even if they have a good sell through rate and bring in some money. It might be due to the cost of shipping going from $1.65 to over $4 or the fees increasing on eBay. Those $10 profits are now closer to $5, and it's not like I can list twice as much to make the same amount of money. I'd rather focus on the quality items that bring in a larger amount. Another thing to factor is the sell through rate and the cost of item. If I am spending $0.10 on a remote at the bins, I would be okay with it taking 3-6 months to sell for a $10 profit. But if I have to spend $4 on the same remote at a retail Goodwill, it better be selling for a $20+ profit within that same time period. I don't want to have a lot of money tied up in inventory, just to make a low return on investment.

I still sell $10 profit items but I do not target them. If I buy a box of video games and some sell for $15, I will take it and move along.

Video games take way, way less time to list/ship than clothing, too.

Yeah, as long as you don’t have to clean and test them. Then it can be similar time

I would recommend anyone selling discs on eBay to invest in a disc resurfacing machine. Then cleaning and testing are not steps needed and can be replaced with a quick spin on the machine instead.

Okay, first off who pissed in your cheerios? I feel as though your last two videos have been super negative. What if the person or people buying the low end clothes just to start out? This whole video was just super negative. What about the people that sell on whatnot? Some of the things are super duper cheap? Selling that $10 shirt might be bread and butter!! Blake you are a great guy but something is negative!! You should be lifting people up not shooting them down!!

What do you think the point of this video was? Anything besides “people need to understand how much money they are making a year and comparing that to how much work they’re actually doing” is the wrong read.

It sounds more like a reality check than negative. The content of what Blake is saying is good to know because there's a lot of sensationalist type stuff on youtube from other resellers on 'what sold.' And maybe it's real but the thing is, these resellers have educated themselves enough to know what does sell, for a profit that's worth spending time on and they usually understand the STR as well. And the resellers making YT vids are editing their videos to make it look fun, easy and simple. There's a lot more to this than just grabbing a bunch of stuff from your closet, yard sales or goodwill, taking pics, slapping it up there and waiting for someone to come along and buy it. And what Blake says here is good for the "starry-eyed" beginner to know and understand. Plus Blake talked about "what your goals are". If you're goals are to clear the clutter in your closet, that's one thing. But if your goals are to make $100,000 a year, selling Tees for 10 bucks profit isn't gonna get you there. And that's reality. Not negativity.

Didn’t I just watch the video or maybe even a few videos of you selling dollar tree toothbrushes? And there was something about $1.70 profit or six dollar profit? The price seems inconsistent is all I’m saying.

You’re missing the point. The problem is that selling $10 one off items is not going to give people enough money to live off. Having quantity listings that are New (of FBAing these items) ends up making you way, way more money per hour. Ask yourself, how many t shirts can you source/photograph/inventory/pick/ship an hour? And that’s assuming 100% sell thru rate. If you had a way to automate imaging/listing and auctioned them off, that’s worth a $10 profit, but most people who are selling t shirts on eBay are not nearly that sophisticated in their processes.

“Someone who sells low value stuff” lol How many DS games for $1.99 free shipping are you gonna have to sell to make a living? What’re you looking to get out of it Blake?

I auctioned off 100, I wanted to see what would happen. I’m using my character recognition program to create listings and experimenting with envelope shipping so I’m still going to make about $50/hr on those, and more once I integrate autocropping software.
