Just like any other law, It depends of how the exceptions are used, if we just have a rule saying “don’t sell what you don’t own” then it will sound ok, until you realize that most business agents won’t be able to do business or bank agents wont be able to give loans etc...so the doctrine is designed to protect the consumer yes but the exceptions make it such that the seller can still find a way to do business.... its the same with “caveat emptor” which protects the seller but still has exceptions that protect the buyer
