I'm so glad i found this video. im in the uk myself, i have had my A1 mini for about a month and love it and have been thinking of starting a little side business, but dont know where to start really so thank for the honest information
@craftylabz18 күн бұрын
I'm thinking of getting an A1 mini as well very soon, no need for the AMS as I already have 2. If this is your first printer. I would suggest enjoying it and learning the ropes, such as fixes and just general tinkering before you start thinking of making money as it can take the enjoyment out of it. If you ever need any help though by all means drop me a message either on here, tiktok or instagram

@craftylabz thanks. I definitely would recommend one, im starting to learn tinkercad, and doing my own design which fun. If im being honest, I'm not planning on selling until I do a couple of little car boot stands in the summer. my kids make jewellery and have been dying to set a stall up at the boot, so i can have bit fun see what people like

Sounds like fun and I'm sure the kids will love it, also gives them a taste of selling their own stuff. You might have a millionaire in the making if they enjoy it

Hi, some fantastic information in this video, thank you. Do you mind me asking what the light box and turntable items are that you use when taking photos of your items?
@craftylabz17 күн бұрын
Hi, sure to be honest if you search Lazy Susan on the 3D file platforms you might be able to print a turn table , if not this is the one I use - www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09L87JHBH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 , this is the link for the lightbox not huge but ideal for small items - www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08XQC38FC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's really nice to see someone in the UK making a success doing this 🙂 aren't many British KZbinrs doing 3D printing videos around 👍

Thanks for the comment. That's true whenever I've looked for thing relating to 3D printing in general, I've always found that most channels are American and no one from the UK, I think this is partly to do with the stock being more available in stores like bestbuy and others like it. Where as in the UK I can't think of any store that would just have a 3D printer on a shelf ready to take.
@speedytweedy12319 күн бұрын
@@craftylabzwould agree with you totally , when starting my 3D printing I found the same and in the end had to just rely on markets at weekends and fairs.
@speedytweedy12319 күн бұрын
Agree, when looking at starting to do 3D printing all vids would Be American and I had to work everything out for selling on Etsy, Fairs etc.

Really interesting info, thanks. Do you know if there’s a figure that the platforms will report to HMRC at?
@craftylabz11 күн бұрын
Good question I think it works out at 30 sales or €2,000 this is physical products, There's a lot more info on this at shorturl.at/pcFFc just so you get all the facts :)

Similar situation in the US with product safety testing requirements, although I suspect it is largely ignored in 3d printing /Etsy realm. Fortunately there is some testing exemptions for small businesses/startups. Guess some protections better than none.
@craftylabz21 күн бұрын
yeah I totally get why the law has been brought in, to protect buyers and some protection is certainly better than non, as we have a duty to protect the buyers not just ourselves and like you stated a lot of people in this sector will ignore it until its to late, but I'd certainly feel guilty if one of my products harmed someone especially a child

What racking do you use? My printers are on tables at the moment that are not stable enough and I’m looking for some solid racking.
@craftylabz21 күн бұрын
Hi, I got these on amazon from a company call "Big Dug" I think they were about £140 at the time and at present only using 3 of the 4 shelves, very sturdy and also come with ground ankers in case you want to be extra secure

How is pla in the uk due to humidity? How do you cope? Can you leave it on the spools? Do you dry it etc? Thanks in advance!
@chrisallan-lancashirereef513019 күн бұрын
It might be wet in the UK but the humidity isn’t that high. I’m in the UK and keep my spools on a rack with no issues.

@chrisallan-lancashirereef5130 great to know got my first printer coming in next 2 days and was just wondering if I could keep the reels on the ams or have to keep taking them off n storing away :-)
@chrisallan-lancashirereef513019 күн бұрын
@@craiggrant8600 I keep mine in the AMS or rack. You can print some desiccant boxes that fit in the AMS too…. I have one with a hygrometer build in to it. Maker World has plenty of models for these.

like @chrisallan-lancashirereef5130 I to keep all my filament on spools and not very often I have humidity, I also live in a seaside town. I do have a filament dryer but can honestly say I've probably used it less than 5 times. There is also a build you can get for the AMS lite to keeps it cover with desiccant beads in. Your talking about all the licenses, you might want to read the licenses for fusion 360 free version also...
@craftylabz19 күн бұрын
I mentioned that I have recent started using Fusion 360 and have a limited amount of models, I didn't go to much in to it, just that I had stated in the previous that I had been using Tinkercad. I am aware it personal use and it be honest it tells you this when you sign up.

@craftylabz ahh, I've always had the educational license so only heard about the personal use from my brother in-law, who has since upgraded to the paid version

@craftylabz6 күн бұрын
You can sell on Instagram and Tiktok but I feel that would also require alot of additional work to get your product seen, it is an avenue I intend to look at providing I keep up with demand, there's also selling on Amazon, Etsy,Ebay. I do the latter 2 at the moment and hope to get my website rebuilt shortly so I can direct customers to their in the future and reduce the feels the platforms charge

do u also have problems with scam bots on etsy?
@craftylabz21 күн бұрын
The only thing I've ever seen on Etsy with regards to scam bots, is getting messages acting to be etsy staff to try and obtain login change details, however when an etsy staff member does get in touch it won't show in your normal etsy mail as they have a separate section for staff member messages so easy to identify a real staff member. Etsy also confirm that their messages will only ever show in one section and not everyday mail and will have a certain logo attached. Great question I never thought of addressing that thanks

Shopify only works when you're focused on good SEO
@craftylabz21 күн бұрын
Totally agree, also helps when you have the time and resources to actually do some marketing, one area I've not done anything with, but certainly more focused for 2025 and going to treat it more like a full business with set hours with marketing and lowing expenses being my main priority. Will certainly give shopify another go in the future for sure as all the back end stuff is done for you, unlike WordPress or WooCommerce where you have to keep plugins etc up to date and manage everything yourself, that's certainly one of the many plus side to shopify
