I found that using 3kg spools helped solved a lot of my filament stock issues. Keep an extra on hand just in case, and it buys you plenty of time to get the spare reordered when you run through it. (If you use a bambu AMS, you can leave an empty RFID spool in place, and use external spool holders for the 3kg spools, and still feed it into the AMS)

Get your 4x6 thermal shipping labels free from UPS. I just ordered their 6000 lot, (yes 6000 free labels) will be here in a week totally free. Must sign up for a free "shipping account". I ended up calling them to set it up. Hope this helps. PS you're not obligated to ship via UPS because of free labels.

It looks like you're printing and selling model that other people sell too. That's a race to the bottom. The ability to design your own things is key. I'm not sure if you're designing them yourself, but vases and stuff are over saturated. Everyone is selling those and those dumb dragons. A good rule of thumb is 3x. If it costs $5 to make. Sell it for at least $15 OR WHAT PEOPLE WILL BE WILLING TO PAY!!! Too many people say "Geez, it only cost me $2 to make. I'll sell it for $5. NO! That is not a business mindset. If someone is willing to pay $20 for your $2 part, sell it for $25!

@@ooDemiurgus I mean, you’re definitely right. Definitely looking at figuring out how to use fusion 360 to design my own products. At this point, my biggest focus is on KZbin and TikTok. Good points, especially on research. I recently did a dozen holiday craft shows and I printed what "i thought" would be popular - those dragons! And thankfully the commercial license I have from a few designers had other things. Because as I started doing these shows, first - I wasn't the only one selling 3D prints. Second, EVERYONE is selling dragons! Anyone that came by, I spoke to about what they were looking for and what seemed popular to them. THAT gave me some nice market research! I learned what people liked, what they were looking to spend and had some information to make the following shows much more profitable.

My 2 cents......Been doing this a very long time.....NOT a big social media guy!!! 1 filament...stick with 2 maybe 3 brands of filament.....calibrate machines to those filaments for a consistent out put in prints. Also establish bulk prices of orders..... This saves time and $ buying in bulk. bulk for me now is 10 rolls but even at 5 rolls this will save you money. for example black and white filament is a rotation of 8 rolls for each color....purchase is of 10 of each color just on my black and white...... when 2 rolls are in box on shelf I am buying 10 more...hope that makes sense...but I have those sales and I have had those moments when I go to purchase I cant.....the I email the company and say hey help me out pretty plz......they see your consistent order through them........Most times I get an email with a purchase order and time they will ship...meaning you get it before they go back in stock on their website. Lock your filament down!!!!!! hope it makes sense and helps.......Great channel welcome to the buizz....keep at it!!!!! and well find your own product as well....

Anyone trying to get into the 3D Etsy marketplace is far behind. I’m not saying it can be done, but you really need to know how to create your own stuff. If you think you can just print other people stuff and make money, then you’re going to have a rough time because literally thousands of other people are doing that exact same thing.

I just got into 3D printing myself as a hobby. Some of my friends ask me to make stuff here and there. I was thinking about doing a Etsy or other platform like you mentioned but after watching some of your videos, hard truths, I’m concerned that the lemon ain’t worth the squeeze. I feel like I would lose so much time, packing and driving to shipping locations that it wouldn’t be worth my time on these smaller $5-$10 items. If you make a video of the time it takes you to open your emails fulfill your orders, pack them create labels ship them and return home, will you walk away with more then $25 hr worth your time in profit.

I am interested in 3d printing and would like to get a printer for myself, mainly to print out my varsity projects (Architectural models), so would you suggest the Creality Ender 3 Neo? Also, something to consider is that I am looking for a budget-friendly one and that I am a student.
@chrishechtl8330
@chrishechtl8330 16 күн бұрын
Good points. Sticking to 1 project is also good. Don't forget marketing the product. You mentioned researching the customer base, but you also need to market the product to the right base. Or market it to someone that will buy it as a gift for the intended purchaser. You goofed and had truth # 4 as the 5th and then #5 as research. Both were good points anyway. Buying in bulk: Watch out for Amazon/Ebay etc game with bulk pricing. I stick to filament I love (currently Creality white) but found that they game it so 2 spools is $23 but 4 spools is $50. Crap like that can add up quick. Pricing the product: very good point. People don't understand the costs involved or your time which is a cost, plus materials, electricity, etc. I just hit a video prior to yours claiming that 3D printing as a business has a 'free' startup. I just laughed There are other markets you can hit too but they can be a pain to figure out. Having a side gig with KZbin is also good. Some people make more money selling the model files on printables, gambody, myminifactory, or cults, or other locations rather than printing them themselves. Or uploading the files to a print farm and letting the customer order from them and have them print it.

Hey i want to ask for the fillament that you should use for prints that you intend to sell because, i was thinking that it is important to make the prints smooth and i dont know how to do it the best way. From the videos i watched, I heard that sanding is best but it removes the smaller details that i might want to keep on the print. ?

@matuszilincan1610 very good question man. I have a video releasing tomorrow where I kind of talk about. I’m all over the place right now with filament that I’ve used. I use Esun Sunlu, and inland mainly for the things that I sell online, but I am going to be moving to a more streamline filament company so I can have everything be the same so I can just order from one company. Not sure yet.

For folks not using that sheet, or if it's not taking it i to account well enough, a critical thing a lot of people miss in pricing is time. Your time is valuable. If you price based on material cost for filament and packing materials, printer cost, and print time without including your time spent harvesting and processing prints, packing and shipping, printer maintenance, time spent getting more stock, your design and development time, etc, you're gonna find you're not getting enough money out of all of it to be worth doing, and you can burn out fast. If you're running on thin margins and a product does well that's great, but not every one is going to do well and you still need to be paid for producing things. If you're making something produced by a number of places so you feel you have to get the price as low as possible, accept that the market for that is saturated and you can't make money with it. Find something else that isn't as produced or design your own thing that nobody is really making instead. Think of the things you rum into in your day to day that printing helped with that aren't on stl sites, or things in your other hobbies that nobody is really selling. There's your product that's going to not only sell if you get it in front of people, but is enough of a thing fairly unique to you that you are the sole or one of a very few sources for. Along those lines, always be thinking about the next thing. Designing and printing objects is accessible enough at this point that once people see there's a demand for something they'll clone it and sell it cheaper than you can. It's scummy when someone steals your design and undercuts you, but it will happen and you can either spend a bunch of money in court playing whack a mole trying to shut down every new person that does that, or accept your time making it is done and pivot to something new which doesn't have those headaches. If you've priced well, you'll have made enough money with it by then to pay yourself for time developing the new thing.

Everything this person just said in this comment is absolutely spot on. I do need to do a better job of adding the disclaimer that as I am building this business my top priority in the beginning is not to make a huge profit. I have a full-time job and other sources of income that I don't have to worry about being extremely profitable from the beginning. However, with that in mind, it is still very important to keep all these things in mind as you are building your business, especially if you are doing it as a main source of income. Thank you so much for your insights.

@@jonesing4life126 I would definitely say give it a try. It is relatively cheap for what you get. Not all of your prints need to be successful. I currently have 16 items for sale, I find that sometimes my low selling items might get favorited, but then they purchase one of my more popular items instead. I want to join the TikTok shop too but Etsy has me busy enough that I’m not gonna worry about it. Although o heard there’s a 48hour shipping rule on TikTok that could make running a store challenging. Average turn around is 2 days but sometimes I need 4 for some products.

@@williamsworkshop717 for sure, I didn’t expect to be at 1000 sales (average $31 per sale) in just my first 8 months but I made sure I’m building my products with the similar and interchangeable parts to set myself apart from my competitors. Also if you can, I try not to have less than 4 rolls of my least used filament and about 15+ rolls of my most common. I have par-levels that help me from running out.

Your Etsy store currently has 13 sales, and your primary focus appears to be Christmas-themed items. However, with the holiday season behind us, this may impact demand. You’re clearly a smooth and persuasive speaker, with near-expert presentation skills. But with only 13 sales so far, anyone attempting to copy your approach might find themselves in a similar situation. It seems like everyone is jumping on the 3D printing business trend, and manufacturers overseas are likely observing this with amusement. Best of luck-your passion comes across as genuine, but keep an eye on your strategy to turn your impressive communication skills into higher sales.

"Hard Truth 5" is more of a advertising lesson. Yes, you'd be marketing to the wrong audience if you were pandering the tumbler things to the predominantly male audience who the tumbler trend wasn't aimed at, but you're thinking too linear by thinking that you'd be selling to them for them.

3D printing may be a commodity, not designing for 3D printing. It is only a race to bottom, to deal with items with little or no profit margin, by churning out cheap designs. The name sweat shops means something, esp. undervaluing your personal time and effort.
