My parents live in the Daintree, specifically Cape tribulation. My father works for "Rainforest rescue" and through him I was able to volunteer with about 300 other amazing humans, in planting over 3000 different species of trees ♥️🌿. I can't tell you how much it meant to me to be a part of give back to our mother earth 🙏♥️🌿. I'm currently building and putting everything I have into my 1982 VW and once she's ready I'll be making my way up there again to live and plant trees for the rest of my life ☺️🌿. The Daintree is a place everyone should experience and pay respect to. Thank you for this beautiful documentary 🙏

There has been a lot of land clearing in the past around the Daintree. Rainforest Rescue is doing some fabulous work in regenerating these areas.

I’ve lived around the Daintree for a couple of decades.... the length of this video doesn’t even scratch the dust off the surface of what there is to see and experience here. What it doesn’t tell you is that the tourism and hospitality industry up here runs on the homeless workers that can’t find long term rentals that don’t require tenants to have two jobs to be able to pay rent and eat etc... generally the industry runs on homeless Australians and itinerant foreigners... yeah, there’s working people with their own homes and people renting units, houses etc, but without the homeless and itinerant all of the resorts, restaurants and tour companies would be permanently understaffed or in risk of closing...

I live just a few hours from Daintree. Back in the 80s I lived in a tent by a creek there for a few months. I'm just on my way there now, realising how crazy it is to live so close and not spend more time there! This doco has raised my excitement at crossing the river tomorrow. It's actually not a very large area, a little pocket of magic. Just over the back of the hills to the west you're immediately in dry savannah. I hope some of you lovelies from further away can come here sometime, but beware of thinking you can explore easily. There has been a clearing around the edges but the main forest is still virtually impenetrable, so thick. NOT a place to think you can just wander around. A few metres from the road/track and you will get very lost. So beautiful photography the birds etc like this is really impressive even to us locals :) I'm camped by the beach just south of the river tonight. And drat, the beach looks so inviting but there's deadly stingers and crocs so it's just a walk to enjoy the breeze, not the sea.. Ah well. The ferns in the trees make up for it :)

Interesting. I've heard recent research suggests that the 'horn' of the Cassowary assists the bird to hear the low. guttural calls that they make. The sound can be muffled by the thick forest and it is theorised that the horn helps them to 'hear' the vibrations.

Very interesting and enticing documentary. I would definitely like to visit the Daintree Rainforest. This area of Australia has always seemed like the most beautiful to me. And the amazing flora and fauna is fantastic. The tree kangaroos are so adorable, and the cassowary birds remind me of a cross between an African Guinea fowl, an American turkey, and a prehistoric dinosaur bird. They are so intriguing.

Great work but could we have one that showcases the amazing living fossil & other ancient plants that this unique rainforest contains and perhaps the story they tell of flowering plant evolution? These forests are rich and have a whole tale to tell about plant evolution! Some amazing stories need to be told to the general public about these unique plants and how they tie these sumptuous forests to other ancient forests of the world. How come some families are shared with China etc!

I support Animal Sanctuaries but one of the most close to my Heart is The Daintree & Cassowary, a scheme was devised to do a buy back of the Forest to which i donate too. I was very fortunate to work & live in the Daintree, its where I first encountered Fire flies there beauty lasting 1 night only, there the devastation Man has on the fragile Reef, Ocean and Beaches as this is the main dumping ground for Cargo Ship waste, the affect Man has by just driving into & around the fragile forest killing swathes of forest by polluting vehicles emissions, by Man swimming in the pools polluting the water leaving films of multicoloured petrol chemical based products like sunscreen, hair and body products on the surface, rocks, edges...everywhere a heavy footprint was and is left be mindful of how you visit because its leaving a tragic legacy that can't be undone

One factual error I noticed: the Boyd's forest dragon isn't from the same family as iguanas. It belongs to the agamid family, of which Australia has many species. Iguanas are a separate family of lizards altogether, and ther are no kinds living in Australia.

Hi Mike, fair criticism. This was actually the first narrated documentary I ever produced. I'm a one-man-band doing everything myself (except for Steve's Narration of course) and it was a steep learning curve. I realise now that I drowned out Steve's talent with the background music on this one. Its something that I was mindful of in my later documentaries. Thanks for the constructive feedback. Recently I viewed on 60 minutes A Queensland town with thousands of flying foxes flying over at night and living in trees of Botanical Gardens. What is causing this apparent human problem.? My Mother now 92 told me in McKay before the mosquitoes swarmed the flying Fox would hold the sky in flight Leaving from their homes on Islands in rivers . Have they no home any more ?

Sad fact about the bats here in Queensland. A massive percentage of the bats a few years ago all died due to extremely hot weather which latest a week or so.
