Great info, that B360 latch looks some strange, have not seen one before this video. Thx for taking the time to go through this. Walter Schlage was a German born American that while working for Western Electric in 1909 his first patent was for a door lock that turned lights on and off. How cool is that. Electrifying!

*02:29* i was actually able to grab two different variants of that B262 you were showing (the one with a connecting screw on each side). and apparently, their single cylinder from that time was the B261. 8.Jul.2022

I can't tell you how many 160s I find installed upside down. The B360, I like to refer to as the UFO or flying saucer. I hate those caps so much that I'll only recommend/install the B562.

100% agree on the cap/tap. I didn't really tap the cap in rather i just pushed them as hard as I could with my fingertip for the next guy when I installed double cylinders deadbolt.

I still get a kick out of my customers that cannot pronounce the name of the lock. It’s a German name they called so many different names it’s just hard to keep from laughing 😂 by the way Jason you were saying it correctly but a lot of the customers do not call it by its correct name. Great videos keep up the good work you’re doing a great job.

Great video Jason. On a side note, the twist turn function of knobs really hasn’t changed much over the last few decades, mostly just the strikes or bolts. You ever come across any of the Brinks push/pull/rotate knobs? I like the revolutionary design concept (physically kinda ugly though) but haven’t come across any in the field. Thanks for sharing!

I’m still not familiar with all of these different styles etc, I just show up and figure it out. Thankfully, I now have these videos if I get a head scratcher. Thanks Jason ! #lockforce

I'm tackling an older broken Schlage deadbolt tomorrow that's keeping the back door shut. "Someone" has already partially disassembled it and gave up. Homeowner wants to try and save the lock.

Jason that thing about the screw head caps was very interesting. Also what is that thing behind you hanging on the left side of the rekeying work station? Can you use a regular deadbolt like a B160 in place of a B360 bolt?

those 360's weren't around for long but man they sold the crap out of them.they are still everywhere. and most people have no clue that most of them are now broken and hardly working

I think we all hate those things so much

@Garlic bread it really depends on the finish and how much exposure you get to sun. schlage satin nickel has always been weird as it ages.. you can tell they source parts from a lot of manufacturers because they all have a similar patina where deadbolts will age different than the knobs, knobs age different from the rosette area. emtek has a lot of good products, and a lot that I warn people about. virtually all decorative hardware makers cannot make an entry knob to save their life, I hate all of them. Baldwin, emtek, etc. but emtek finishes you should be careful of. Their lifetime brass is good, but anything else is a living finish, which means it will patina. Emtek satin brass ages Horribly and I have seen it look like crap real quick if you have a lot of rings on your hand, large key rings, that finish will turn to junk quickly.. but all of their living finishes I think have a 5 year warranty for exterior doors. which is about standard

Dang those caps suck, great design schlage, why not just come with a tube of resin and fill up the screw ends.. no one would want to rekey a lock 😜
