Having been born in Guatemala and coming to the US at age 6 I vaguely remember being at this celebration. Now At 48, I’m looking forward to soontaking my wife and kids to witness this spectacular event.

Drew .. please don't see this as another " bucket list " tourist attraction.... it is an insult to you own religion .. this is an act of faith by Christians... i doubt it very much that a muslin would say that " a pilgrimage to Mecca " is in his bucket list..

Your comment is incredibly ignorant. I was raised Catholic and continue to be so. It was in my "bucket list" to see the processions and alfombras from Guatemala. A friend of mine who at some point identified herself as an "agnostic" (no longer) tagged along during my visit last year and everything she experienced and witnessed during Semana Santa change her religious views. Unlike the individual quest for spiritual fulfillment in Mecca, Guatemala's Easter processions are communal events open to all, inviting people from diverse backgrounds to come together and witness the expression of faith and culture. These public gatherings serve as a platform for collective celebration and shared experience, fostering a sense of unity and inclusivity among participants and observers that don't exactly take place during one's personal spiritual journey. Definitely worthy of consideration for a bucket list experience! Don't write dumb comments for the sake of writing and sounding righteous.
