Utah Highway Patrol was warning drivers everywhere Monday to watch closely for potential road hazards after a near miss on Interstate 15 in Iron County last week.

Back in the 70’s I was traveling cross country on my motorcycle cycle. I was out in the middle of nowhere. I saw a guy up ahead trying to change a driver’s side rear tire on his van without getting hit by cars. He couldn’t move his van over off the road more than he did. I parked my bike a ways back with the flashers on and waved my hands with my helmet to get people to move over into the passing lane on the freeway. Few cars did. More truckers did move over. The van guy bought me lunch for helping him out.

WHAT? HOW IS THIS THE TRUCKERS FAULT? AM I MISSING SOMETHING HERE? UHHHGGGG IGNORANT PEOPLE DRIVE ME BANANAS
@bobinthewest85595 ай бұрын
@@jenniferstone1779… What I think you are missing (aside from your caps lock key)… is the fact that the truck driver either failed to observe an accident scene which effectively was blocking the entire roadway… or that he refused the “inconvenience” of slowing to a reasonable speed for approaching said accident scene. The truck driver snaked around that scene by shifting onto the inside shoulder (where there were people) at approximately 50 mph, which is absolutely ridiculous. He should have observed what was going on well in advance, and slowed down accordingly to an approach speed that he could comfortably stop from if necessary. And if then deciding to go around on the shoulder, his speed should not have been above 10 mph, maybe even slower. He had no regard for the people on the scene… or wasn’t even aware of them because he was coming in entirely too fast. 35 years of trucking experience tells me this. That driver is a menace.

Actually, the truck driver WAS paying attention... Not to mention, the truck is doing somewhere between 65 & 80 mph.

Never get out of your vehicle. Someone i knew rolled their dark jeep on the highway coming off the onramp. He survived due to the seatbelt but the jeep was on its side so he crawled out. Just as he was on the door a vehicle hit the jeep,he flew off & was run over in the other lanes by multiple vehicles. He died. They couldnt see the jeep because the black underside was facing traffic, wee hours of the morning. Had he stayed inside and in his seatbelt he would have been fine.

If they had stayed in the vehicle, and the semi hit it broadside, they would be dead. Maybe a different situation in daylight, this was a black car, on a dark road with no lights. People are so stupid these days, they don't know when they are in danger. Any time cars are coming at you at 70 mph, you are in danger, if you aren't going 70, in the same direction. The motorist waving his arms, while wearing dark clothing, is looking for a Darwin award, no common sense at all.
@ramblerdave13395 ай бұрын
@@hollynivy3769Yes, and if you get out, get behind the guardrail on the right, and move away from directly beside the wreck. Save getting out your insurance papers, for after the police get traffic under control. And keep your eyes, on the traffic still coming toward you, until it has slowed or stopped. No matter what, you're not out of danger, off the side. We had a case back in the nineties, in Michigan, where a woman's car broke down on I-75. She pulled onto the right shoulder, put on her flashers, and she and her young daughter climbed about 20 feet up the embankment, where they sat down and called for help. Shortly after, a drunk priest (in the middle of the afternoon) passing people on the shoulder at approximately 80 mph, came on the scene, swerved to the right, went up the the embankment and killed them both. He had a long history of drunk driving, and passing on the shoulder, and a suspended license. The Archdiocese had to pay dearly, and the priest got a life sentence, if I recall correctly.
