I am honestly surprised, that even with two straps, they were able to handle the load of 30,000 pounds without breaking! If it were me, I would have used chains for that job. But clearly Ron knows more of what those straps are capable of then I lol.
@RonPratt3 жыл бұрын
@@stellarproductions8888 The orange strap that I used has a safe WLL of 40,000 lbs vertical at a 5:1 safety factor and the blue strap has a safe WLL of 21,200 lbs vertical at a 5:1 safety factor. So the slings used were capable of safely lifting over double the weight of the counterweight and still have been within their safe working load limits when used together. The winch cable (line) used on the main boom winches have a safe working load limit (WLL) of around 17,000 lbs. I had each line doubled so there were 4 lines to the load, which equals roughly 68,000 lbs safe WLL on the winch lines as they were configured for this lift. Again, capable of safely lifting over double the weight of the crane counterweight. The biggest thing working against me on this lift was the weight of the counterweight at the DISTANCE that it was from the rotator on the initial lift and the "short-jack" that I had to do with the left rear outrigger. This comment/response is not meant in a negative manner. It is meant only to inform and be educational. I hope this was helpful information. Thanks for watching and God bless.

@spaceinvadertoo3 жыл бұрын
The counterweight, truck, trailer, crane pads and everything else at the scene belonged to the customer. This is why Ron did not object when he pointedly remarked that Ron had no authority to tell them how to load, secure and care for their property. Otherwise he would be held liable for anything bad that happened after they left the scene. It's their stuff. Let them do with it as they will. Also be sure to include all the services fees that would have been part of any invoices billed to the customer.

@xheralt3 жыл бұрын
(1) With the dogleg shape it has, the top is lighter, so the center of gravity isn't too horribly high (2) it's sitting diagonal across the width of the trailer to spread out its weight across the _trailer's_ load-bearing structure (3) flopping it over would have been a huge shock to the trailer's wooden slats (4) easier to lift on or off in that orientation and (5) the client, a flatbedder who knows better than either of us how loads sit, okayed it. _AFTER_ having the trailer (& load) flip once already!

Not much choice but to haul them upright. The hook points are all on top, the amount of rigging and work to lay them down isn't cost effective. The problem wasn't with the counterweight position, the driver simply took that corner too fast.

I have to ask, why would they load the counter weight in a top heavy position ?
@njovwevnjweV3 жыл бұрын
It appears to me that there were only 2 pick points on that counter weight. So because of that it just makes it easier for the operators to just set it down on the trailer with the lift points at the top. It’s somewhat safer to load/unload like that probably, but as you can see it made it very dangerous in transport :/
@grimsoul03 жыл бұрын
The points they picked from are the lift points. The other hooks sticking out on the side are where it attaches to the crane. They haul it like that so they can just lift it off the truck and put it straight on the crane.
