Another driver here. 12 years, 1.5+ million miles. Sometimes it's dark or you're doing seventeen dozen things trying to clear a corner or a road or dodge traffic or whatever else and some crap happens. Even the low-speed mistakes feel like they happen in an instant. If the worst you get out of it is a wrecker bill and maybe a little bent metal but all the people are okay and the load makes it too, put it in the book of learned experiences and go on. It's just a truck, it's just a trailer, it's just a load and the world isn't short of any of the three but good people are hard to come by and perfect ones don't exist. Good on y'all for keeping your heads cool about the whole thing.

You obviously don't own the equipment if you think that was a good wake up call, I don't work that way, I would have freaked out if that was my truck, I'm own five trucks and drivers come and go, I can't pay my guys $80K a year like big companies, so my trucks are parked, I'm done with drivers, I never had anything like that happen to me in all my years, I would feel horrible for that truck n trailer

A farmers life. Even when there's nothing to do, there's something that needs to be done. A full time farmer is a full time mechanic, full time manager, part time welder, plumber, electrician, carpenter, scientist, part time veterinarian, full time father/husband, I can't understand why any sane person would be a farmer. @@Grumble_ I grew up in northern Alabama, Roll Tide!, on a family owned farm. I picked cotton leftovers after the combines took all the easy boles. That was an after school job for me and a lot of my friends and family. We had 40 acres, corn and soybeans. A relatively small farm. Grandma kept half an acre for herself, tomatoes, cucumbers, turnips, okra and such. It wasn't an easy life. Grandpa worked outdoors every day. We kids worked every evening after school. Mom had a job in town, a real job, with health insurance and all the other benefits. Grandpa got sick one day, had to go to tbe hospital for the first time in 40 years. He had a bad heart attack, it left him crippled. Hiring hands would cost more than the farm made. We tried to make it work, but the only way would be for one or two of us kids to drop out of school and take over the daily work Grandpa did. He sold the farm when he heard this. His reason was to keep us in school, and build a better life than he had. A few of his grandkids didn't turn out so well, a few did okay, I'm a mechanic looking to open my own shop, a niece of mine has her own cleaning buisness, there's a cousin doing good, truck driver that owns his truck. We grew up poor and did what it takes to survive...

Ron arrives at 7:14 - truck's out and ready to roll by 19:27. Just Ron, a couple of wire ropes and diverter hitches, one winch, nothing snapping, no scary thumps - job done and off to the next gig. That's a pro. I'm subscribed.

@@donniebrown2896 first break was because he chained the second winch line to the back of the truck, and then extended the boom without disengaging the clutch or powering it out. Totally operator error, not paying attention or planning ahead. Second break was because the shackle at the end of the straps was not rated for the load they had on it and it just opened up. Could have been defective/damaged, but probably was way undersized for the load because the operator didn't calculate the loads properly, or they didn't have rigging heavy enough to do that job with a loaded trailer.

Of course with a chain and shackle break in one job, I'd be scared to use the equipment to... I’m amazed w/ the shear size & weight of tractors/implements, trucks/trailers farmers drive on those narrow country roads, ditches on both sides, overhead wires & oncoming traffic INCLUDING other farmers esp during harvest that there’s not more accidents. That’s the difference between drivers & operators. Farmers are equipment operators. I can’t back up a 4 wheeler with a trailer 4 foot trailer.

@@chrissyfrancis8952 there is a point when you just say ''fuck this im taking the whole road'' and do what need to be done. otherwise you have too much trouble trying to ''fit'' in traffic. also funny enough, it's harder to back up a small trailer than a big like this one. however a smaller trailer is easier to deal with while driving foward, don't have to always make sure the back will pass where the front did

I think Glenn's needs to invest in some newer straps and clevises. Popping a strap with a fully loaded trailer might just be due to age and wear, but opening a clevis is definitely a sign of using the wrong tool for the job. Glad your getting it picked up off the ground !

Glad no one was hurt. Good drivers/employees are hard to find. A good man that learns from a hard lesson will be a better man at the end of the day. It shows real integrity to protect the identity of your driver. I'm sure he already felt 0.5" tall without the entire internet community piling on. Less important but I hope your equipment isn't too badly damaged.

Unfortunately in trucking, especially ag related trucking, there are some really sharp turns you have to make where you lose sight line of the trailer, so you just swing as wide as you can and hope for the best. It usually goes fine, but it only takes once for everything to go south in a hurry. Maneuvering milk trucks around dairy farms at night can get especially interesting at times.

This is what happens when equipment gets bigger and roads don't. Quite a lot of roads around farming areas are very narrow, makes farming vehicles manoeuvres very tricky.

In the U.S. trucks haul far longer distances and usually don't have to deal with difficult terrain so they are built to be more efficient and comfortable for that. You'll see Scandis and such in jobs that accent the advantages of a shorter frame or combo trailers but they are vast minority here. These trucks are second hand trucks that have hit their end of life service for road haul and thus cheap in comparison for farmers to buy to haul their own corn. Which often means they aren't day cabs but sleepers which they don't need and thus longer frame. Day cabs in the U.S. are actually a lot more expensive as they are a less commonly built truck.

@@Cragified Quite opposite,you could have bigger combos cause you have plenty of room and wide roads.Our trailers are actually longer here,than the one ditched in video..Efficient? European trucking has the efficiency far better than americans,and i disagree even in what comes to comfort,we use modern trucks in here.I had a good talk with finnish driver who drove few years in Canada and US,quote "They are stuck in old cowboy style,and not willing to move forward."

However, the information from Zach shows that there was a neighbor pulling a farm implement, so unless you intend to ram him off the road, the amount of room you have is significantly less. And passing may not be as easy either, remember you cannot pull off into a field you do not own either, that is also a big no no.
