I will be doing my own test in central CA, using steddom,Uzi,Leola, zenytmer, trees just planted 2024.What a really cool test to do in southern can is what produces better for total weight of a tree, either Reed or Cannonball.

Thanks for sharing Greg. I wish I could have gone to the event, good info. Rootstock makes so much difference. How are your rootstock experiments going?

Hello greg, thanks for all the info from your channel and website. I'm currently looking into planting a small 50 avocado orchard in my yard, but I'm hesitating if to purchase avocado trees grafted from clonal rootstock or grafted onto seedling. I have good sandy soil and drainage, but I'd prefer to get as much production as possible. Which would you suggest? Thank you for your time

There are many factors to consider, including cost, your location, and scion varieties desired. But first make sure to get a handle of the basic tradeoffs between the two options through my post on rootstocks here: gregalder.com/yardposts/avocado-rootstocks-what-do-they-matter/ Feel free to ask a question on that post and we can dig into details together there.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing. Would have loved to see Pinkerton included in this study. I have two of them, one in ground and one in a pot. It’s my most efficient “factory” lol😂

That's a good idea. I also wonder how Pinkerton would have compared.

Hey Greg, I’m still wondering where that orange/avocado grafted tree is in San Juan Capistrano you posted a while ago. I’d really like to go take a look in person and check out the area. I’m a wildlife researcher and have been looking for spots in Southern California to document and the tree really stood out to me, all alone in that field haha. Looks like the hills by j-Serra?

Well that just about says it all. I wish Zutano was part of the study just for comparison for the backyard growers. That don’t have access to a Brokaw tree.

I also wish Zutano seedling rootstocks were included. Would love to see how they compared. At least most of us have access to the scion varieties.
